I just got a new ssr 125 and I took the carb apart to rejet it because it doesnt run right. It has a keihin 26mm carb on it. The pilot jet is really short and does not have the small piece with the little holes in it.(looks like a main jet) I was wondering if it broke off?

I was wondering which way on the needle clip for more or less fuel

Hey man..

Think about this..

When you move the clip down on the needle shaft.. you raise the needle.. allowing more fuel to get by-

The opposite when you raise the clip..

When you are done and satisfied.. write down all you did and put it in a paper in your manual.. so you can look back when you forget where you left everything..

The TOP clip on the needle as it sits in the carb is position #1

Ok thanks, that was what i thought but i wasnt sure. i just bought a new 125cc pitbike and when you snap the throttle fast it cuts out. It came with an 88 main jet and 38 pilot. I put a 95 main in and 45 pilot and it cleared it up pretty good. it only cuts out if you are sitting still, but otherwise when your riding it, its pretty good. ANY SUGGESTIONS on what jets i need?

Just keep in mind that you can make any bike bog on the stand if you twist the throttle fast enough. If there are no issues while riding and the plug is tan, you're all set. If it bogs while riding adjust your fuel screw in/out and note which direction makes it better/worse, that will clue you in to whether you should go larger/smaller with the pilot.

I rode it again and it would cut out in the top end and blow flames

Could be an ignition problem, but I suppose a way oversized main could do the same thing.

hows the plug look ?


1)Install Intake manifold to head and carb, oil gaskets and tighten bolts lightly at first then torque then down gradually in a cross pattern to provide a good seal and avoid air leaks

2)Make sure the carb is 100% clean, free of debris and you can see light thru both main and pilot jets

3)Double check you valve tappet adjustment .003intake and .004exh.

4)Make sure your exhaust gasket is installed properly.

5)Make sure all electrical connections are tight and you have a solid ground from the engine to the frame.

6)Check for good fuel flow and fresh fuel.


7)See our jetting guide and do a plug read.

The plug is black so i know its getting to much fuel. I went from the stock 38 pilot up to a 45 because that is the smallest the parts store had. I ordered more jets which should be here today. I took the main from an 88 to a 95 and it runs pretty good with those jets but you can hear it choking out through the air filter while its idling. The bike still cuts out when you crack the throttle no matter where you have the throttle, for example, if i have it almost wide open and let off and get back into it, it will cut out and backfire.

Check for exhaust leak at the header

Is the air filter properly clean and oiled

you CANT tune it sitting on a stand

Air filter is good, I will check for exhaust leak but I don't think there is one, it's a brand new bike. I know you can't tune it on a stand, I ride it every time
