So can you answer the magic question on how the current neck brace prevents a compression fracture?

if i push straight down on the top of your head with that much force your neck will go one direction or another, nobodys neck is strong enough under that much pressure to stay straight if they wanted it to, thus putting pressure on the brace and reducing pressure on the neck itself. Say your head takes 300 pounds of force on impact and the brace only relieves 70 pounds of that pressure, you tell me if that could have been the finite amount of pressure that kept your neck from fracturing

Cam,
I agree...

jjhubbard,
You should probably research physics and compressive forces and cervical spine injuries before posting.

Oh great make up numbers why don't ya.  That is why there needs to be lab testing done on these things.  If it could be proven in a lab that a neck brace  fails in an over the bars crash, like in stoppie, virtually no speed and falling straight on your head, would you still wear one?  It's already been proven that doing a roll causes discomfort to the wearer.

my experience comes from actually receiveing and inflicting these injuries in an octagon. I have choked people til things go pop, twisted the head til things go snap, literal hands on experience, nobody ever taps out, they think, like you, that their neck is stronger than it is. I know more about what force your neck can handle than you can begin to grasp, if you think i would step into that sport without researching anatomy and spinal injuries, you sir are wrong.

LoL...whatever you say Mr Gracie. With your logic you read about vaginal anatomy and have sex with 100 ladies makes you an gynecologist. Youre gonna have to have a bit more credentials than having the ability to choke someone out to make the above statement.

I fell and cut my knee one time. I read a WebMD article to see why it hurt and now I can perform my own ACL surgery.

this is just a comical read for anyone with any medical knowledge or experience, Thanks for the laugh! I have my own theories as to why I think the neck brace is a good thing... not going to elaborate because its a futile debate! I will say that I think my IQ just went down!

Cigarettes were once "hugely accepted" and did not cause health problems.

and as I stated earlier, the only thing these threads are good for is a good laugh. They ALL end up like this.

If you think a neck brace is a good thing, great.  I like the idea too but, I see the current concept has some serious flaws.  That is why I want to see independent testing and industry standardzation, just like there is with helmets.  Enough with the emotional propoganda and fear mongering.
