What's the best first mod for my 230 to make it faster?

to make it faster you could put a smaller sprocket on the back to increase top speed, but torque would be reduced...

Jet the carb, remove the intake snorkel and modify the exhaust.  But, do not remove the snorkel without jetting the carb.

What he said! :banghead:

It's debatable on the order though.   You'll be faster with good suspension, period, but uncork and rejet is cheap, cheap, cheap.  So, why not do it.

Suspension gets pricey but worth every penny if speed is your goal.

Taller handle bars wont make you faster but will help you stand up on this little bike.  Which is a good thing.  If you're taller than 5' 5"  you'll benefit from taller bars.

First you must ride, ride, ride. Then when the bike seems slow you can modify. So the first thing is to jet it properly, because it is slow right out of the box. The Mike Coe jetting specs are the way to go. You can find what parts you need in this forum. Vortec CPI has alot of post on this subject. You won't be displeased it makes it feel like a whole new bike.

cut airbox, remove the baffle and add a JD or a dynojet kit. these three things will make it seem like a new bike but will also expose how bad the stock tires are.

You don't cut the airbox on these bikes.  You just need to pull the snorkel / baffle.  Gives 4 times the area for flow

There is no JD kit for these bikes.

Interesting though there is a dynojet jetting kit: http://www.dynojet.com/pdf/1176.pdf

As everyone has stated above.
Exhaust and jetting is best first mod. Only thing for me is now I'm addicted, I want more.

Once you feel the difference you'll want to go even faster and at the sametime want the bike to handle better. So in my case suspension is in the works, pieces are comming.

Gotta have it. :banghead:

Honestly the best upgrade I did to my crf230 was getting rid of the stock pirelli tires and putting on some maxxis IT's.......power doesn't matter if you can't hook up.......the second would be doing the 428 conversion.....frees so much wiehgt up from your final drive....very noticable!!

Lots of comments on here about the 428 conversion, such as it's a waist of money and so on.
Good to here from a someone that actually has the conversion.
I'm working on my rear suspension right now and will most likely add the conversion to my project.

If your going to make her go make her go right?
