I'm about to pop on an decent looking 05 450 that's been sitting close to 3 years due to my buddy getting taken out at an intersection by an Escalade full of Democrats. He died twice on the way to the hospital but ventually made it (ruptured aorta). He was driving a cherry pro street 65 Nova all tubbed and an aluminum small block to name a few He's done riding so I'm trading a Colt 45 automatic for it. The gas had turned to varnish and the carb insides turned to almost epoxy hard junk. Filter was rotted also. A buddy checked the valves and they are in spec but after trying to clean the carb it barely starts and runs like dog crap. There's no smoke whatsoever. It was running when it was parked as I borrowed it one time. It has a lot of aftyermarket stuff like ASV levers, trick pipe, pro taper trees and bars. Tires are decent and sprocket and chain look new. I just want to buy an eBay carb but want to get the right one with the least hassle. I've always been a smoker guy so this'll be my first dirt thumper. I've searched the last hour and got tired. I have a good 2 month recovery period before I can ride this as I just got my cancerous prostate removed, so this'll at least keep me in the garage for therapy.
   Thanks
Craigus

the carb can be cleaned unless someone has broken a mixture screw in the body there is no reason it can't be cleaned.if you do get a carb the 02-06 are 40mm and will need the ap mod.i just sold a 41mm fo $250 on ebay the 07and 08 models use the larger carb which is redesigned and will perform better than a 40mm.

Get an 05-08. The 02-04 were a little different and had some bog issues
