hey so i just sold my 2006 crf250r for 3000. and right now ive also got a 2003 cr250. anyways i just wanted some input from you guys on which year crf450r would be good to pick up. im considering 2007-2012. i ride both mx and trails and im 6'1 and 150 pounds with gear.. so just wondering which year you guys would say is the best and is a new bike worth the extra money? or would i be loosing too much buying a new 450? let me know, thanks..... by the way i know this should go into the "which bike to buy" fourm but figured i might get better input from here... thanks!!

6'1" and only 150lbs with gear? Sounds like you should use that money to buy some food for yourself.

With that price range you might as well buy a new bike.

For around $3000.00 for sure get an '08. Best carbureted CRF. Arguably the best CRF overall out of the box.

$4200.00 - $4500.00 go for a '10.

Anything above $5000.00,  buy new.

Thats what I would do.

ok thanks. and how does the 08 compare with like a 11 or 12? I know the newer ones are FI but how do they compare handling wise and overall nimble feeling.. does the 2012 feel a lot more compact and more nimble then 08?

The '05-'08 generation peaked in '08, four years later they would make the bike as good as an '08. If it were my money, I'd buy an '08 and spend the extra $$$$ to get it well setup for myself.

So does an 08 feel a lot less nimble then the 2012?

Neither bike will feel good or nimble until you have the suspension dialed in for you. I agree with corndog. Get an 08 and use the money you'll save to get your suspension dialed in, any goodies you might want, new gear if you need it etc.

To be honest I make decent money but I would never buy a new bike now because I am not a pro racer, and not good enough rider, so it would be a waste. Plus I would like to retire while I am still fairly young so a good deal of my money is invested towards that. I am currently riding an '02 that runs well and handles decent. If I find a smoking deal on a '08 I will do it but I am not going to pay top dollar. I would rather be sitting on a beach with a fashion beauty by my side and my '08 ready and waiting near by when I am 55 yrs old :banghead:

I would say go buy a new one, but I don't like to buy used bikes. Most people people on here have a huge hard on over the 08's but I really wonder how many of them have rode a new generation CRF, I am guessing not many. I was pretty turned off to Hondas with the older CRF and rode a Suzuki for quite a while. But I liked the new generation enough to buy a 2012, they do need a little set up but honestly what bike doesn't. i think the 09-12 are light, feel light, and handle well. I think if you go used you should get the newest bike possible for a reasonable price.

Making a fitting economic decision does not translate into "A huge hard-on" for most people here. And I will lay money that most people here have rode a newer FI bike. Great bikes. I have driven a Porsche and was amazed. Far superior to my car. Maybe I should go buy one... :banghead:

Well sweet how much money are we talking here!

If you are looking for a new car and a porsche is with in your budget than ya i think you should get one if you like it. because that would be a FITTING economic decision. maybe you didn't catch what the OP said earlier about his price range of $3,000 to $7,500. which in my area can buy a 2012 CRF 450 brand new. I paid $7,300 for mine brand new. so don't give me your not a fitting economic decision bull shit because you don't like, want or can afford a new bike. You do realize the OP was asking if he should buy new or used right? I wholly stand by what I said, I believe the 09-12 and especially a new 12 is a much better bike than a used 08 which from personal experience makes me feel like most people that have a hard on for the 08, which is a good bike, have not actually rode a new generation CRF and therefore can't give an accurate comparison of the two.

Sorry that I kind of went off on you here but you did make a pretty D bag comment in my opinion. Anyways maybe be a smart ass to someone else next time and enjoy your porsche.

My advice is still to buy the newest bike you can afford

Well he's not in your area is he! $7300.00 may buy a new bike where your at but it doesn't around here and from what I have seen it doesn't in Washington either. And yes I saw his price range $3000.00 - $7500.00 and corndog and I gave an opinion based on that range. WHICH IS WHAT HE WAS ASKING FOR. Then you come in and make the ONLY "D bag" comment about huge hard-on's and probable lack of experience. And now you want to act like "I sure told him" after I called attention to your comment. Don't say sorry for going off on me, I hear little dogs bark all the time. Means nothing.

Maybe he can get a new bike for $7500.00. Nothing left to set it up properly once he has it. Thats assuming he is tapped out after he spends that $7500.00 I won't assume that but thats the price range he gave so thats what we have to go by. And did your ever st

If I wanted a new bike I would buy one. If I wanted a Porsche I would buy one. And if I was trying to make a decision about it and asked others I would up they would give me their opinion.

Here's one dealer in Washington I looked at just for kicks. Pretty much the same price as you would find in my area.

Your right you did and that was nice of you. then I gave an opinion that was contrary to yours and stated my opinion. that most people that have a hard on for the 08, which I have stated the whole time is a great bike, and push them really hard. have probably never rode a new generation Honda CRF. I still think a new 12 is a much better bike. When you acting like a D bag started with the smart ass comments.

And your right I am acting like "I sure told him" after calling attention to YOUR dumb comments. Hearing this supposed "little dogs bark" sure appears to mean nothing to you. You should just stop making yourself look dumber and dumber. I'm going too.

Anyways this has blown way out of had for not being in town square. sorry your feelings are so easily hurt by the words hard on, that apparently started all this. but I'm done arguing with an idiot. 12 is better than an 08 have fun on your 02 and you should look up what spell check is.

It's the internet. Shit happens. No big deal.  Nobody got hurt or lost any sleep.

Yeah if you can get a '12 go for it. The 09 seems to have some common issue's with fuel delivery that looks to be easily resolved but other then that the EFI's are fricken nice once you get them dialed in, which you have to do with pretty much any race model bike. I rode a friends recently and it takes some getting used to the twitchy throttle response but thats no big deal I don't think.
