I'm working on a buddies 1996 cr125 and it won't rev past 3 or 4 thousand rpms....been through the carbureator 20 times, checkes reeds, plug, exhaust ports, at a loss,  anyone had this problem?  I'm starting to think it has to be electrical...could it be the stator or coil?  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The valves are opening, I took the covers off to verify, and the jetting is stock 172 main, 50 pilot, I have tried it every way I can think of....this is not my first carb i've been into...i even bought a new float and set the float height to stock .....but I'm definately open to advice......cause i'm stumped.....

Did you do a compression test? My bike wasn't revving up either, turns out it had 90 psi compression and the ring was bent around the piston and driving into the cylinder wall... hope its not that!

Check out the electrical, if you've gone through the fuel and intake systems then i'd start checking electrical

Compression is 160...it seems to come and go what makes me think it's electrical....so anyone care to guess if it's the coil or stator or cdi?

Yes it will run, for how long who knows. But it will run like crap, take the exhaust off and if you see the window cut out on the piston its on the wrong way.

Damn lol my next guess was going to be the carb slide had been put in backwards. That will cause all kinds of crap, but glad to see you got it sorted!!!
