Hey I have been looking to get my first street bike for a while now.. at first I was leaning towards a sport bike like a cbr600 or gsxr but recently came across a few people on youtube who where riding super moto bikes on the street and thought to myself.. wow those look like alot more fun and ive always loved dirtbikes anyways.. then I did an insurance quote and saw the yearly rate is 1/10th of what I would pay for a 600 sport bike..
So at this point im almost sold... My main problem is id prefer to buy used to save a bit of money ive been watching craigslist to see what these types of bikes run used (would like a drz400) and have yet to see a single one get posted...
So I went to the suzuki site and noticed these bikes brand new cost about the same as a newer used 600 sport bike and thought to myself... well maybe I will just buy one new..
Do you guys think it would be wise to purchase one new knowing good and well I will probably go down on the thing countless times (especially when I find offroad places)? Or is it best to wait till a used one comes around?
Im also open to other suggestions besides the drz400 I want something reliable that can keep up with highway speeds I wouldnt be going for long distance trips on it but I do often get on the highway for 30-40 mile stretches
Thinking about getting a supermoto bike

The DRZ is a fine bike once you take care of the fixes/reg. maintenance. There is some peace of mind in buying a new bike, knowing that nobody has ever flogged it or whatever. Buying used is a good way to pick up some aftermarket parts for cheap if they come on the bike already. Since the DRZ is hard to kill anyways, if you can find a nice used one then I would go for that.
