This sounds good, if people can make some sort of alert system when they are heading up/over/down to ride. There are times when I have something planned and scheduled to go riding months in advance, there are also times that we depart on a whim to go ride. Case in point, two weekends ago my bro-in-law and I were talking about going up north just in conversation and in less than two hours, our gear and bikes were in the back of the truck, wife notified, and hitting the road. I am located around the brighton/ann arbor area, too.

I'm in Troy, and haul with an '08 Dakota.  Not the greatest for multiple bikes but we can figure transport out later.  Just getting list of whose interested together at this point.  For those interested drop me a line with your email, riding level (A,B,C) or number of years riding.  Thanks fellas, lets get a group email list together and get out there....

I don't mean to advertise, but check out Great Lakes Dual Sporters Motorcycle Club. (GLDS) I joined over the weekend for $10/year and I've already gotten my $10 worth. The website is http://www.gldsmc.org/

Most of them are dual sporters, but they also have big riding events. This weekend they're all going up to Idlewild up by Baldwin. Most of them are towing their bikes and camping for the weekend.

The $10 gets you access to all of their routes, (Did you know you can go from Rochester to Port Huron via dirt roads only?) as well as access to their dual sport rides, and people to ride with. A lot of weekends they meet up at 8am at a restaurant in Ortonville before riding. At the restaurant, you get free breakfast before the ride, and free dinner after the ride. How cool is that?

I've yet to even ride with them since I just joined up but so far, my $10 has gotten me constant connection via email with a ton of different riders who are supportive, and are even willing to help trailer/carpool, etc. I may actually be buying a bike from one of them. I'm quite impressed. Money well spent.

I think you might be misinformed, the Ortonville rides are not thru GLDS. They are through a local club, the NOMADS. We are a dual sport club and on Sundays we ride the local dirt roads and some trails. We meet for breakfast at Kens Coney in Ortonville at 8:00am. The breakfast is not free though. Anyone is welcome to join us and ride.

Hmmm. Maybe. I'm just going by what the quote on the main page said from a member. Either way, I'm quite happy with GLDS so far. I have a buddy on Michigan Gun Owners who rides with the NOMADS who was going to introduce me to you all sometime soon. I'm hoping maybe there will be a ride for those not going to Idlewild. :banghead:

Touche'. Lol. 72 members according to the email, still a hell of a lot, but you're about right.. 10% or so if I'm not mistaken and the site membership numbers are accurate.  I know on trails, good pack leaders hold up a certain amount of fingers to inform the other directions riders how many are behind you. 72? Yeeeeeahhhh.

I would like to be added to the list as well. I am up here in Northern MI (Petokey area) Tomahawk trails. But would love an excuse for a road trip / camp out. Obeshaw@gmail.com and if anyone is coming North bound holla. 40 yr old returning to dirt after 10 year break from riding my whole life.

Even that number is high, it's counting family members and others over the course of two days. Lucky if there will be 19 out in the woods at any given time.

Still not bad. I'm hoping to join you all next ride. I almost bought a 1993 Ford Ranger 4x4 today to use for my bike. I showed up and someone was out test driving it when I got there -- they put a down payment down as soon as they stepped out. Doh!

I'm looking for some riders in the Metro Detroit area to go dirt biking with as well. Dirt oriented dual sport I guess? I don't have a trailer to tow my bike, so I'll be riding it to wherever we go... looking to check out places like the Mounds, etc. I'm a dirt biker at heart, so I need to find people like minded.

There's a regional Club with Members throughout the State and probably several in your area.

I am in the Ann Arbor area and can never find anyone to ride with.  Did you Michigan guys end up putting an email list together?  I'd love to his the Mounds, farther north, whatever.  I can help with bike transport (3 place trailer).

@Turbotaguy

A bunch of 33-39 year olds are going to be on bikes riding St. Helen/Denton this Sat.  You are welcome to join us.  We are camping near the intersection of Crooked Rd and Waco Rd, south of I75

And we are all from Dexter and Canton areas.  Do you do any dirt road riding around the area?  I like to head out when I can for a few hour ride.  Let me know if you are interested.

Damn - I can't go on Saturday due to other commitments.

I do like to ride at the Mounds in Flint, and at the newer place near Jackson (only been there once).  It's nice to take off and ride for a couple of hours without having to commit a whole weekend.

I'm ready to head to Jackson or the Mounds anytime - let me know!
