Just got back from tour and it's time to get my bike back in running condition. I went out riding a few days before I left and knocked my front brake caliper against a rock in a wash; ripping the bolt out of the bracket. (see photos) I can't seem to figure out what the part is that I need to order, so if anyone could provide a quick reference to part #, ebay link, anything, I'd be very grateful!

Also; last time I was out my clutch started acting funny. I noticed if I came into a corner too hot, it felt as though the clutch wasn't completely disengaging, and I would tighten/loosen the clutch cable out on the trail, just to find myself readjusting it 10-15 mins later. Is this a cable issue or do I need new clutch components? Looking to figure out everything I need so I can get her running strong again. Thanks in advance!

looks like you need the caliper bracket, part number: 59350-13E00, your clutch issue sounds like your basket is becoming notched, when this happens the plate dont fully disengage from each other, take the clutch cover off the bike and check for "teething" in the basket, and if you want to go deeper, dissassemble the pressure plate, remove the plates and check the inner basket for notching as well...

Try this:

the caliper itself looks bad but looks like you can salvage the bracket...

Couldn't tell if that ebay auction included the bracket or not from the photo, so I sent a message to the seller, haha. I'm going to have some free time in the next couple days so I guess I'll open her up and take a look at that clutch basket for notching. My guess is you're right, as this bike was previously raced before transferring hands to me, but I figured for the price tag it would be an invaluable learning experience in the long run.

So my next question; Assuming I do need a new basket, should I go ahead and replace all the components while I got it apart? Seems reasonable unless friction plates wear a lot longer than I suspect.. Also, I am unsure of how many hours are on the engine at this point, but since I've owned it I have put at the very least 50-60 hours on it. I would like to get everything done at once and have a totally reliable machine by the time the bike see's the dirt again. (within my budget at least... which at the time is sort of uncertain.)

Thanks for the info funkin!

tough to say, you have a bike who's history your not completely sure about. we dont know WHEN the last top/bottom end rebuild was done so its difficult not to recommend getting the whole motor apart for a full rebuild but that may not be necessary... the clutch plates do have a service limit (thickness), so if they check out and look OK (not burned or discolored) then you may get away with just a basket. mostly the problem lays in the outer basket and almost any after-market billet aluminum brand should hold up better than stock. best thing i can recommend to you right now is to get a manual and start measuring it up. at 60hrs though i would at least consider a piston kit...

The 07 had issues with the clutch,  you need to upgrade to 08 parts

I have the part for sale that you need for the front brake. Not sure about the clutch though.

@funkin; Thanks again for the insightful information! I'll keep this thread posted with my findings when I get a chance to inspect the clutch basket and plates over. I may have to save the piston for a later project however..

@mog; are you talking about the 450 detent spring? My bike does hit a false nuetral from time to time between 3rd and 4th, whatya guys think?

@breeze; How much you want for it? How would we go about a transaction? Do you have paypal?

No as well as that,  the clutch plates changed as they were breaking, different springs,  and anti chatter rings ( 2 mini plates ) were added,  you should  get the shift detention spring but in not sure it will help with missed shifts from 3rd to 4th , sounds like worn dogs

I was looking into ordering the wiseco clutch kit for $389. Would it be better to buy an aftermarket billet clutch basket, and get the 08 model OEM plates and other hardware?

Thank you guys for the wisdom.

EDIT:

Browsing around the internet a bit more, I realized I can get a hinson basket + hinson plates and springs for around $430. I'm sure the wiseco is an excellent product, but the hinson products also have 20x's more reviews, and all seem to vouch it as the superior product. $40 dollars isn't too much more either... What you do you guys think? Hinson, Wiseco, 08 OEM?

whichever you get, both will be superior to your oem setup...

$86 but it has a tooth missing on the gear.. How major or minor of a flaw is this?

if im not mistaken, that inner gear should come appart from the basket, allowing you to insert your original (undamaged) gear... but again i must say that im unsure. it would help you if someone could verify or deny this...

No big deal. I found out that (for my bike anyways..) the Hinson and the Moose happened to be produced by the same mfg. (based on #'s on unit and design)

I can't seem to find the post again, it was an older one; I was reading it last night here on thumpertalk. But I remember one of the posters mentioning after receiving one from his dealership, he had them order up the other to compare the two (this was also for a 07 rmz250 iirc) and said he and the dealer could not tell the two apart other than the Moose Racing stamp and the Hinson Stamp.

Best of all, they're under $120 bucks new on ebay!

This seems like the best idea actually; http://www.ebay.com/...#ht_2160wt_1037

Should I still replace the 08 OEM basket, or should it be sufficient?

That looks worn out to me? On the fingers?

Have you looked at yours?  You can file the chatter marks if they are not too bad

I would not buy that one and would stay away from all used baskets and clutch plates. That one has notching that you can see. And you never know if it's been filed once before, which would make it worse!

I would get the $120 brand new basket you mentioned earlier, and throw in some $50 Tusk clutch plates.
