Need some guidance repairing my 07 rmz250
Posted 16 April 2012 - 01:51 PM
Also; last time I was out my clutch started acting funny. I noticed if I came into a corner too hot, it felt as though the clutch wasn't completely disengaging, and I would tighten/loosen the clutch cable out on the trail, just to find myself readjusting it 10-15 mins later. Is this a cable issue or do I need new clutch components? Looking to figure out everything I need so I can get her running strong again. Thanks in advance!

the caliper itself looks bad but looks like you can salvage the bracket...

So my next question; Assuming I do need a new basket, should I go ahead and replace all the components while I got it apart? Seems reasonable unless friction plates wear a lot longer than I suspect.. Also, I am unsure of how many hours are on the engine at this point, but since I've owned it I have put at the very least 50-60 hours on it. I would like to get everything done at once and have a totally reliable machine by the time the bike see's the dirt again. (within my budget at least... which at the time is sort of uncertain.)
Thanks for the info funkin!

@breeze; How much you want for it? How would we go about a transaction? Do you have paypal?

I was looking into ordering the wiseco clutch kit for $389. Would it be better to buy an aftermarket billet clutch basket, and get the 08 model OEM plates and other hardware?
Thank you guys for the wisdom.
EDIT:
Browsing around the internet a bit more, I realized I can get a hinson basket + hinson plates and springs for around $430. I'm sure the wiseco is an excellent product, but the hinson products also have 20x's more reviews, and all seem to vouch it as the superior product. $40 dollars isn't too much more either... What you do you guys think? Hinson, Wiseco, 08 OEM?

whichever you get, both will be superior to your oem setup...

$86 but it has a tooth missing on the gear.. How major or minor of a flaw is this?

if im not mistaken, that inner gear should come appart from the basket, allowing you to insert your original (undamaged) gear... but again i must say that im unsure. it would help you if someone could verify or deny this...

I can't seem to find the post again, it was an older one; I was reading it last night here on thumpertalk. But I remember one of the posters mentioning after receiving one from his dealership, he had them order up the other to compare the two (this was also for a 07 rmz250 iirc) and said he and the dealer could not tell the two apart other than the Moose Racing stamp and the Hinson Stamp.
Best of all, they're under $120 bucks new on ebay!

Should I still replace the 08 OEM basket, or should it be sufficient?

I would not buy that one and would stay away from all used baskets and clutch plates. That one has notching that you can see. And you never know if it's been filed once before, which would make it worse!
I would get the $120 brand new basket you mentioned earlier, and throw in some $50 Tusk clutch plates.
