That's the plates sticking together .

Try tightening the adjustment a little . If that doesn't do it , you could pull the clutch and insure there's nothing built up on the plates . Some fine emery cloth and a light touch to both the fiber and steel plates should freshen it .

Have you tried the adjustment where the cable attaches to the motor ?

The 'pointer' on the actuator arm for the push rod has to be lined up with the alignment mark on the case . It looks like a raised dash mark next to the actuator arm , toward the inside of the motor .

Loosen the adjuster on the motor . Bring the lever adjuster in all the way .  Using the adjuster at the motor , align the pointer with the mark and tight that adjuster . Any fine tuning can be done at the lever .

Seriously , I wouldn't think so , but each bike is a bit different . It's always best to check the easiest things first .

I just noticed that when I aligned the adjuster on the motor and ajusted the lever for the slack the alignment onthe motor moved. Started the motor up and did the same thing Will this hurt the clutchs now because I was going to wait untill winter to do this if and change the clutchs

If you did the adjustment as I described above , there should be very little if any at all adjustment to do at the hand lever .

The jumping shouldn't hurt unless you don't have control of the bike at the time .

Pd I had alot of slack to adjust at the hand lever after I aligned the arrows. After I adjusted I did noticed that the arrows are off. The bike shifts fine and she is not slipping any suggestings don't forget I bought this bike used so who knows what was done thnks again

"I had alot of slack to adjust at the hand lever after I aligned the arrows."

How can that be ? Maybe doing something wrong or the cable is junk ??

Try it again : Loosen the adjuster on the motor . SCREW the lever adjuster in all the way . Using the adjuster at the motor , align the pointer with the mark and tight that adjuster . There should be little to no play at the lever .

I did exactly what you said to do. Did it again and samething. The only thing that I can think of is that the cable is bad . Now this was originaly a 84  250  bike now she has  a 350 86 motor, the cable looks new and maybe the internal cable is to long for the that type of motor I will have to look into this. Now she only does this when she is not started for a couple days. Thanks Pd

I suppose the transplanted motor could have a slightly different set up , but still should work the same .

I have an old Honda that has a similar quirk . I've tried everything and have learned to live with it .

Maybe it's one of those things , like your bike having only two wheels , that you simply have to accept or spend time chasing tails .

It is just a machine  and an old one at that . :banghead:
