Hey guys,

I have a few questions, any help is appreciated.

I am looking at a 2010 model because I can pick it up for a nice price, and it just had a full engine rebuild, comes with 12 months parts and labor warranty. So how does this bike go? any known problems, easy to start, reliable? Just any information you have on this bike will be a huge help to me.

My second question is why is the 150 not listed on any sites like BTO Sports, One Industries etc. I went there to look for graphics and parts though they have the 125sx and the 250sx, Are the plastics all the same shape and size between models, and how about the exhaust and such, does the 125 go on the 150?

Anyway, Thank you for your help in advance,

Great bike, my son is running a 2010 15 XC engine. It has proven to be very reliable.  The plastics are all the same I just bought two sets of these for our bikes: http://store.cycrara...okitktmsx3.html

This is where you can get the owners manuals for the bike. The 2010 is the older style plastic. The 2011 is the same as the 2012 except for the right hand side air box cover. The 2011 has the notch for the comp. clicker a bit higher than the 2012 SX and XC bikes. The XCW side cover is the same as the 2011 SX. The differance is because of the shock linkage.
I love my 2011 150sx. I have not ridden my 250sx since I bought my 150!

The 150SX is a great motocross bike. First kick starter and extremely reliable. I have a slightly older version and love it.

The 2009/2010 are pretty much the same bike with some extremely minor changes to the suspension.

It wasn't until 2011 that they changed the PDS shock angle and the bodywork.

The 2007 - 2010 use pretty much the same graphics, although the plastics have some extremely minor changes.

Would you say the new frame is worth trying to find a 2011 for?, though if I got a 2011 no suspension work would be done, on the 2010 I am looking at it has MPE Pro series suspension. But if the handling is a great deal better on the 2011 then I might have to wait for one to show up, they are pretty hard to come by used in Australia,QLD.

IMO no, not until the linkage did I feel there was a major enough change to buy a 2012. If you can get the '10 for a good price go with it.

In my opinion, no matter what suspension config you have, you'll be spending money to get it dialed in. Depending on the tracks you ride, really depends on how much work the suspension will need. If you ride soft terrain tracks and weigh 150lb or less, you might be able to get away with the stock stuff with an oil level adjustment in the forks. But if your much heavier then 150lb, then you will be looking at springs at least and perhaps some serious work done to the front end.

I ride a lot of friends bikes and I just rode a 2012 350SXF, which is the linked bike. Ya know, besides the fact it had more grip (because its a big thumper), it really didn't feel that much different then my 144. It still had all the flex which I love about KTM's, it still had a lot of the suspension issues that are common with KTM's AND it had ALREADY been re-worked!

KTM's biggest weakness is suspension. The 2011 kit is the best PDS available, but PDS in general is a flawed concept for motocross that works great in off-road applications. This is why the linked bikes are such a highly sought after change. The linked bikes use a Yamaha-like config, so now MORE tuners understand how to set it up so it works.

So in my view, the 2011 isn't the be-all-end-all change, the 2012 is. Sadly, the 2012 has airbox restriction issues, which are kinda nasty.

Honestly, if I were to go out RIGHT NOW and buy a 150SX, I'd buy a 2009/2010. But if I were gonna buy a 250SX, it would for sure be a 2012. The smaller airbox seems to be OK for the larger motor.

I had put money down on a 2012 150sx untill I rode one, or actually six at some KTM ride days. That is when I got my money back and bought a 2011 150sx. The suspension is much better than the linkage bikes. The linkage bikes are quite a bit more bouncy than the PDS and are much more expensive to get dialed in. They tend to like to jump sideways on square edge bumps. To fix that you have to buy different linkage arms and revalve the shock. The PDS is much cheaper to get set up and much easer to live with in the long run. Another plus is that the 11 makes more power than the 12 because of the restrictive air box on the 12.

So you rode a series of different 150s that had suspension setup for various weights and skills and you found the 2012 to be the worst one!? It's all in setup and the 2012, setup properly will beat a 2011 setup properly. The linkage is a fairly large improvement over the non-link. If both bikes were setup for you, I'm confident you would take the 2012 over the 2011. As for saying one is more expensive then the other to improve on, that's BS. They will cost as much as you put into them. I'm not saying your information is bad but it's a biased opinion.
