2012 Chevy 1500 versus 2012 Tundra

But seriously you should look into the 6.2l chevy...we've pulled a 24' v-nose with 4 sleds in it and it didnt have any trouble.

I've noticed that pressure pulsating in the cabin in my Tundra. As far as I can remember, it only happens when the two rear windows are down. Definitely kinda
weird though.

I ultimately went with Ford. I liked the Tundra over the Chevy because of the power, but the dealer used some bait and switch tactics that ticked me off, plus i spoke to another Tundra owner who advised he was getting real world mileage of maybe 13 combination driving, which is worse than my '08 2500HD (6.0 gas, 6 speed)
I truly was interested in a Chevy or GMC also , but the prices i was getting quoted were darn close to a Tundra or a F-150 for what i perceived as a lesser equipped truck (again -- a good dealer makes a lot of difference here though ) .
I went with a eco boost F-150. Mines a 2wd with a 3:15 rear gear ratio. setup like that, mileage has been pretty darn good so far since winter gas is gone (between 19 and 21) -- but i was talking to a guy at the pump one day with a EB 4wd model who said he was getting more like 15
I usually drive my trucks until they are close to worthless anyway due to the miles, so i am not that worried about resale value. Toyota makes a darn nice truck, but i mentally made the choice to go Chevy or Ford --- and did.
I'm also keeping my 08 2500 in case i ever have to tow anything heavy -- it has 125k on it and has been maintenance free except for a power window motor .

Like one brand has some magic engineering pixy powder that gives it significantly better mpg?
It does not happen.
Many reasons to pick brand A over brand B..........but they all average about 15mpg driven realistically hard with winter blend gasoline.
22 mpg with and ecoboost 4x4?? Who actually believes that?
But hey.....it said so on the window sticker
BB.

I'm with Sk, They owe us and they owe all the prior GM and Chrysler owners that had any "warranties" flushed in the same exchange that robbed all the bondholders and rewarded all the union members.I don't give a crud what any of you union members on this board say. It was robbery and throwing out contract law to do it. I would much rather patch together a 20 year old Ford then spend a nickle on either of those.I have owned Chevy, Dodge, Plymouth and yes even Fiat. None of them have any quality and now we know none of them have any integrity.

The Silverado 5.3 will edge it out in the gas mileage category, but just barely. Maybe 1/2 better highway mpg. The Tundra powerplant is fantastic. Beastly powerful, and silky smooth.
The Silverado has always had a great ride, but the Tundra is no slouch. I have had both, and the Tundra has a feel of quality that is hard to beat.
It is currently the only American made half ton. About half of the F150's are built here, but all of the Tundras are.
The Tundra is made in San Antonio Texas and has 80% US parts content too.

Would anyone try that in a Chevy?
Yes, -- no prolem at all. I've had a 2500HD gas burner for a few years and a ton of miles. I have confidence in the brand. (even though i bought a Ford instead -- its not for any political reasons, -- i like the idea of the Ecoboost concept and i bought into it -- plu)
But then again, its doubtful you would have any problems with any of them , for that haul if they are modified for the occasion (what modifications ? bigger fuel tanks and things? I would assume a publicity stunt for Top Gear would also involve support vehicles if needed as well )
Top Gear could substitute the Tundra with a Chevy/Gmc, dodge, Nissan, Ford and get similar results as long as the vehicles are in equivalent condition to start with no doubt.
While building a house, i worked with subcontractors who drove trucks from all brands that all looked like they had been beat unmercifully with shovels or something, plus getting trailers in and out of muddy construction sites needs 4wd at times, plus owners who are not necessarilly sticklers for routine maintenance --- guys who pull heavy skid steers and small dozers with half tons --------- you name it, all kinds of abuse.
All the brands work pretty good, and i've seen enough of all brands that are over 200k that live their lives at payload capacity with tools in the bed plus pulling heavy trailers to convince me all the casual/light duty user needs to do is pick his color and what logo he wants on the grille and it will probably do fine for years

I wonder if some of the guys who use the piss out of the trucks have an opinion about getting royally screwed ( as a taxpayer, assuming they do pay taxes ) by a government that made a decision to redistribute wealth from bond owners such as retirement funds etc. to a group of union members who had contributed just as much to the financial ills of the company whose value they raided to enrich themselves against 200 years of contract law precedent?I do hope you don't mind if some of us out here in cyberspace and in the real world have an opinion and reason for ourselves about which companies are crooks and which ones have integrity. You drive what you like, your dollars go to support everything about the companies you buy from.I will never pay money for a chevy or a chrysler product.

The brand debate/what's better or worse removed from the equation, I have to agree with this 100%.
I have two GM products currently, but they were bought long before the bailouts, and they will be the last one's I own.
I wouldn't own a Chrysler product again, bailout or not.

However, Chevy, GM or GMC are all the same to me... I have always like them all but do I think they are built the same as Tundra NO! Never mind fuel economy but will the quality of the TUNDRA make up for the 8k difference in price????? If I could answer that question I'd have pulled the trigger on a new vehicle already. Now we have a new guy at work... claims he is an x Toyota tech says he never saw a Tundra in a shop for anything other then oil and breaks! He's a beer drinking buddy but you know how that goes... just likes a fishing story!
I like the ford too but I heard it's built in Mexico???... no offence to anyone Mexican but I don't believe these vehicles have the same quality control. My last 02 dodge was built in Mexico... and except for the engine (diesel) the thing is worse for nickle and diming me then my first truck a 1992 chevy s-10 2.8l vs .. so I won't go that route anymore!
I like the fact that Toyotas are built and produced in NA... I believe we have to support that as our economies are tied together... anyone know where the F250 is built? Seriously looking at going to the 6.2l if I am gonna pay 44k for a Tundra...
