You guys complaining about the weight are missing their point.
This is not a dirt bike to replace your X.
It's really a street bike in off road trim.  (popular around the world)
320lbs is super light for a street bike.
KTM's are NICE..........
there's a thread asking about selling price on their great 500 -  12 THOUSAND dollars...................................... :cry:

Well I don't know what manuals you're referring to. I've looked at two FSMs and they don't list a power, which is why I provided links to what I think are representative dyno results for both RFVC 250s and 400s.

His numbers are from the Honda factory service manual I believe, as are mine.  The earlier manuals list it.  My 93 XR650L factory manual doesn't list it...

My 83-84 Honda factory service manual lists the XL600R at 43 BHP@6000rpm with 5 kg-m @5000rpm or 36.17 ft pounds of torque.

I hear ya about the $12,000 KTM price tag. I really don't think they are quite that much around here though. Only $10,000 or so here lol.

It just amazes me that the Big Jap 4 don't target the performance dual sport market. Of course, it looks like Kawasaki and Suzuki have both dropped their performance trail bikes, so who knows. If they can't sell hot trail bikes, maybe they don't stand a chance at selling a hot dual sport?

Right. It is my understanding that Honda quit listing power sometime in the '80s. That's why I wasn't sure which manuals were being referenced.

If that's true, then we only have third-party rear wheel dyno numbers to go on for the XR400, which are right around 30hp. The 32.2hp listed in the XR350 manual is at the crank. That means power at the wheel is more than 2hp lower than the 400's even with a very optimistic 14% driveline loss, which would require a pure street tire to achieve. The 400's dynos were done on a knobby, so the 350's rwhp would be realistically even lower yet.

Yes, the FSM shows hp ratings in the front under engine specs.  :cry:

Dyno's are all over the place on readings. Varies from brand to brand. Only way to compare dyno figures is to put all bikes on the same dyno.
