Check with your local track or race organization that you plan to race at, and it will tell you what the classes are.  For the most part, classes have gone equal displacement.

Why cr250?  are you only into honda.  Imma honda guy to but only a fan of their 4strokes.  If you are thinking of a 2stroke I would get a yz250.  Even older like 03 is still competitive and I think they kick the snot outta the cr250.  but hey we all have our opinions....on the other hand I ride a CRF250r 2005 I have alot of time into it and it is a fun bike...I smile everytime I ride/race.....and have no problem keeping up with guys on 2012's

the yz250 handles slower IMO,  i prefer the honda handling but i hate the width and rigid new frames

Dealers do not stock parts,  I cant even get a clutch lever for our cr250 at our honda dealer,  I make a habit of trying to buy from them first, and they never have what I need, and no way am I'm ordering and wasting my time and another trip

do not base your buying decision on dealer support,  things like tires are the same for all brands

hmm i felt my YZ was alot better cornering than my honda or the CR's. But everyone has their own opinions and the same bikes feel different to everyone....thats why its hard to tell someone....I say if yo can get a hold of some 250 smoker and 250fs just for a little test ride thats what I would do.  I always felt like my YZ was good everywhere....never was perfect but never did anything bad even when I made rider error.  My honda isn't like that...if I mess up it gets crazy fast.

i love the feel of 2 strokes but for exra $1000 you can get beginner friendly bike (so ive heard but not positve its better beginnr bike) four stroke are just so sexy sounding.i think i just gunna get the 250f .

Eh, neither bike is slow and neither one will be absolutely wasted on a MX track with amateur riders. A YZ250 will not make you faster than say a CR250. It just won't.

That is true....but being comfortable will make you faster.  I was never comfortable on the CR but the YZ felt like home...that being said I had buddies who would spank me on a cr125.  Also I would think about maintaining the bike...the 4stroke is gonna cost more....not an arm and a leg like some say but it will cost more than the 250 smoker.
