Hey all. I just picked up an old '85 Honda Magna V30 the other day as my first street bike (I've got 2 dirtbikes I enjoy greatly). It came with a Clymer manual, but I had two questions/issues. First, does anyone know the shifting ranges for it (or even just in general)? I'm really worried about blowing up the engine, so I tend to shift at what is probably too low of an RPM. Secondly, the bike runs great but seems to bog down in a certain area of the throttle. Below and above this area performs great, but when I hit the middle, it always bogs and occationally tries to die. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hey glad to see other ppl on magnas!
I've got a v45 and it's awesome.. had it for a few years now. But to answe your questions the v30 redlines pretty high so your shifting depends on what your doing at that time.. in the twisties you wanna shift at lower rpms to keep a nice fluid motion. But on straights or gettin o the feeeway you wanna shift at around 8-10k to get the most spwwd outta your gears. I do beleive the redline is at 12 13k. I'm not in my garage right now so idk. But I can tell you that v30s are LOADS of fun and will dominate most cruiser sports on the road..
Now for the second question. Where does the bog occur? Low mid or high range? Did you clean the carb? Dis you run seafoam through it? How long did the previous owner have it sitting before you came along? Is the choke sticking? I couls help if you were more specific.

Oh and good luck blowing that engine.. dam things bullet proof.. I've had one at redline a few times railin it out and it never blows.. I'm not sayin go out and tey but it won't hurt the engine.. magnas love the high range..
