Cats are predators, they look at every thing as potential prey, horses are prey, they look at everything as a potential threat.

my cat looks at me like I am a piece of steak. my horses look at me like I am a bale of hay.

I would have gone off on that guy, the news caption would be something like this "Local mountain biker, found dead at bottom of Hill, police suspect he was going too fast and lost control" It would be sooo perfect, no one would ever know

most mountain bikers around NYC ive met are elitest douchbags. even my MTB friends agree with me. their used to be a decent spot 10 minutes from my house. it wasnt legal but everyone rode there since the 60s. one guy would even clear the trails with a chainsaw.  mountain bikers started going there, got premession from the county now they call the cops when they see us. upstate they seem cooler. my friend whos a MTBer had problems with some other MTBers cuz he drives a disel truck.

When I have an issue with hikers or MBT'ers(almost never) I politely point out that the reason they are able to hike the trail they are on is because I spent 5 hours the week before with my chain saw clearing it. It's usually the dog walkers or straight line bikers that give me attitude. I broke my foot Sunday night after clipping a rock testing my damper and I never stopped, knew it was broke. I was booting it back to my truck when I came up on a Razor with a young kid driving, I revved for about 2 minutes before he finally looked back. Kid wouldn't move, looked back again and kept driving...I finally got by him and gave him the rock roosting of a life time. He had no helmet or gear on...sometimes a little trail justice is needed.

Anyhow morale of the story is, if someone is a dick, politely explain that the majority of the time your OHV plate or trail pass is what pays for their recreation spot and 99% of the time, at least where I live it's the motorized guys who mantain the land. I've never come up on a hiker with a saw or a pair of loppers, and definately never building a bridge.

Horses and OTV sharing trails with motorized users as told to me by a horse rider...they get off the trail to give us way. Only makes sense since they can hear us coming.

MTB's around here, think they own the place. They dont even stop at stop signs or stoplights here. I got bitched out because I cut a paperclip off when I had the right of way. I thought his head was gonna erupt when I calmly explained that he was also required to stop at a stop sign.

Here in idaho bicycles are not required to stop at stop signs. also not required to sit at red lights. You can just treat it like a stop sign (yield to traffic with the green light tho.)

Maybe it's because I have a mtn biking background, but I've never had the slightest trouble with mtn bikers ever when dirtbiking, even in pretty populare spots. I always stop and say high and remind them that we clear and maintain the trails they're on, and they almost always say thank you.

When it comes to passing people... it's extremely rare that someone won't move over for me as soon as it's convenient and safe when I come up behind them. The worst offenders by far are slow dirtbikers.  But if they don't let me past, I just happily follow and chat with them until it's convenient and safe for me to pass. If someone is going to be a dickhead, it's only going to ruin their satisfaction for me to happily putt behind them spewing out 2-stroke fumes. As most longtime tt-members know, I enjoy irritating dickheads.
