Hi, my Yamaha Rhino 660 is having diff problems. Once when I rode it, for some dumb reason, I floored it in reverse. When I did, I heard a big bang. I looked and one of the half shafts had popped out of the differential.
I took it somewhere and got it fixed. (That set me back a couple hundred bucks). I rode it several times after that. One day I noticed it was leaking diff fluid out of the same side and that half shaft was pulled out a little bit. It still spins both rear tires, so its not all the way out but im trying to figure out what is wrong with it. Also, because of this I haven't started it in about a year. Now I cant get it to run. It starts fine with starting fluid and will run on it but it just wont run by itself. How can I get it running again? If you can answer any of these questions, It would be greatly appreciated.

Because they would just blame it on me and charge the same thing.

So theyre just gonna say "hey man that was you who caused a leak in your differential you just paid us through the ass to fix"? Doesn't make sense... But still I hope you get it figured out!!

As far as starting goes, the vacuum operated fuel pump behind the passanger seat isnt very reliable. you can check it by alternately sucking and blowing into the vacuum line on the carb. if no flow, change it, and the filter....I don't know about the diff, find a better shop next time i guess ;-) My front Diff is giving me problems too. Locks up like diff lock, even in 2wd..?? Don't jump your rhino! LOL!

Starting issue- The fuel tends to evaporate and also drain back into the gas tank when it sits for extended periods of time. It is a vacuum fuel system, somewhat of a bad design by Yamaha, I just had to go through this same issue. The below is something for you to try that will possibly solve your issue:
1. Drain all gas out of the flat bowl on the carb, there is a small screw on the bottom of the carb to do this, back it out but do not take it out all the way. You will see some fuel drain out, once it is done draining just screw it back in.
2. Take the gas tank out from under the pass seat and dump out all the old gas. Install tank again and fill tank with new fresh gas.
3. Put a new fuel filter on the gas line, it is located behind the pass seat on the metal bracket that the fuel pump is bolted to. You can get a fuel filter from you local auto/marine parts store. Make sure to get a fuel filter with 5/16 ID barbs like this: http://compare.ebay....&_lwgsi=y&cbt=y
4. Install a primer bulb between the fuel pickup fitting on the gas tank and the fuel filter. I put mine just on the other side of the seat mount before the engine console so I can easily access it but really anywhere is fine as long as it is not in the way of anything or close to anything that will melt it. Make sure you do 2 things, point the bulb in the correct direction so it pushes fuel to the carb and not away; and hose clamp the fuel line on each end of the primer bulb to ensure it doesn't leak. I bought my Primer bulb from my local marine shop, they use these primarily for outboard motors to prime the fuel line system, you will use it for the same reason. This is what you need: http://www.sears.com...u=SPM2928661901
Once you do the above pump the primer bulb and prime the fuel system. Once you have your fuel system primed check for leaks, if none are found then crank it over. Hopefully it starts but it may not as the issue could be related to a bad fuel pump or clogged jets in the carb. Start with this and if this procedure doesn't get your rhino running then let me know and I can help you further. Also if you need I can post pictures of my setup to help you get an idea of what you are doing, good luck.
