Just went to Spangler Hills for the first time in 10 years as the kids have started to ride. I did eventually find some hill climbs just north of what is now Golden Valley Wilderness. But they still don't seem as good/big as I remember (I used to think they were the best hill climbs in the area). You know, the kind you point a 500+ bike in 3rd, gun it and proceed to point the front tire to the sky and hope you can keep it from looping.

Did I miss them, or are they now inside of the Golden Valley Wilderness (don't remember that being there 10 years ago). Are the hills just north of there the best there is now in that area?

I assume you are talking about the Summit Range (Sand Hills) south of the Spangler Open area.

This narrow area between the Open area and the Wilderness is a limited use area (very dumb idea) and the only legal routes are the ones marked with the brown posts. There are no legal hill climbs of any kind in this area.

READ the mans friggin post before dumping on him.  He made NO suggestion about riding wilderness.
He was simply asking if the hill climbs he remembers from way back are still there...  or did they get fenced into the wilderness area.

To answer your question...  yes you were in the right area...  and yes you missed the serious hill climbs cause they are still there.  Stuff so steep that you can't even see the bottom as you slide down them cause they get steeper half way down.

Thanks, that's what I was wondering was if they were in the area outside the wilderness or not. Don't like all the wilderness areas, but it's not worth the hassle or the fallout to the community to ride in those areas (always hated seeing people ride in those areas in Kennedy Meadows with no regard to how it will affect keeping trails open). Yes, I'm careful about the limited use areas.
