A few questions for you. Did you replace the chain and rear as well? When is the last time you checked out the swingarm and rear wheel bearings?

For the chain I take it off and place it on the floor, if I can arch it into a half circle I replace it. Someone recently told me that is not a very accurate way of judging the wear of a chain but that is what I do. Every year I replace the chain and sprockets. I just did the kids bike yesterday and his chain is stretched about half an inch longer than a new chain. Also his rear sprocket is wasted. Your rear does not look bad but something is not right because your front is wearing like it is out of alignment. Is that the OEM front sprocket?

To insert a picture just use the image link. You already have the URL just click the image link, paste it in, and click ok;) It is the little icon that looks like a picture.

Do you ride in a lot of mud and/or grit?  I have had them do that.  chain too tight?

also, the smaller the sprocket, the tighter the turn the chain has to make, which is more wear on the front sprocket.  When I had the issue, it was with a 13 tooth, ran nearly too long.  I have had much issue with that since running a bike that takes a 14 tooth.  The 12 is just about too small for the chain to turn.  I think this is the core of your issue.

look at the 12 tooth, you can see where each link connection is and how tight/pointed the wear point is compared to the 13 tooth.

I don't think I'd blame the sprocket on that one.  Does the other side look the same?  I'd suspect a serious misalignment of something to have shaved the sprocket like that.  Considering the amount of wear and the inevitable metal shavings from that, I think it would be worth considering replacing the chain now due to the potential damage from this condition.

Here is what I just took off the kids bike. He ran the Grand Prix series and Endurance series Ironman so he has put a lot of wear on parts. There parts were new in Feb 2011. He ran a 13 /50 last year on the 150. This year we changed it up to a 14/50. I ordered o-ring chain by mistake this year. Normally we run the non o-ring chains.

Oh ya, the old chain is about a half inch longer than the new. It has stretched that much. That notching on your 12 tooth front looks very odd to me. I get what Gmoss is saying about the tight turning of the chain but I'm not seeing abnormal wear on the 13 tooth so I would be wondering what is up with that funkiness.

had the 13 sprocket on the bike fore about 3 month's the 12 is about 7-8 months old.. Do you ride in a lot of mud and/or grit? had a lot rain this year a little last year.. I clean the chain after every ride.. wd-40, chain wax      I have had them do that. chain too tight?  about 3 fingers maybe a hair more...  Does the other side look the same?   no looks almost new  cannot figure that one out one side looks like ??? other side looks new...http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i367/pse1/IMG_1138.jpg

Mud and the tight turn will cause that, and the tighter the turn, the more the wear.  Mud is a part of riding here and when I was racing a full series, we ran lots of mud races.  That wear was common.

Do you run the stock chain guard?

What are the tell tale signs of a worn front sprocket? Is it the "slanted points" like JoeMclaughlins picture?
