I know this topic has been up ALOT before, and you are all probably just sick of hearing about it.
But I've recently broken my scaphoid, but not in the usual place (?) my doc says. He said that I've been lucky and broken the "tip" of it, and therefor I'll only need to be in hard case for 3 weeks and then 3 weeks splint(If that's what it's called) So a total of 6 weeks.

Do any of that make any sort of sense to you guys who know??
I didnt get a great fealing about this doctor, he seemd very distracted.
I did both an ordinary  x-ray and an MRI, if that matters.

I just wanted your thoughts on this.

Is 6weeks to short?

Last time I broke that one I was in a cast for 9 months.  Yes 9 MONTHS.

Tell the doc you want to be in a cast that long.  That should do it

I was in a cast for 3 months.  Seems way to short to me but I am NOT a Dr.  How about a second opinion???

Border: I feel a bit irony.. But I'm serious I dont want to take it of to early and &%$#@! something up!

Steve: Yeah alot of ppl I've been talking to says they were in cast for roughly 3 months.

Dont get me wrong, It's friggin awesome if I'll have heald up in 6weeks total, but if it aint heald and I bust it again I'll go nuts!
I'm allready almost climbing the walls cuz I cant ride!

umm well mines split right down the middle... i've spent probably 4 hours in a soft cast...lol. Fractured april 09 and still bothers me every now and then, mainly just loss of range of motion (push ups are from knuckles only now) but other than that the Doc said that since theres no blood flow to that area then the only thing the can do is a screw/bone graph.

I took my cast off myself at about three months.  Went to the doc the next day and had it put back on.  You really don't want to screw around with the hands.  I have probably 30% range left and pain most days. Doctors are highly trained  for a reason. Learn all you can about your condition and then trust the pros.

BTW...after breaking scaphoid in my right hand three times I have leared a valuable lesson.  Don't fall on an outstreched hand. Forearm to shoulder roll usualy has a better outcome.

When I broke mine I was in a cast for 6 months and it never healed so then I had to have surgery. 6 weeks seems really short especially the last 3 in a splint considering how unique that bone is

I broke mine and had surgery to screw it back together and was back to 100 percent motion in it in about 2a months. Now my other wrist bothers me and my "bum" wrist is stronger and has more motion. I think its because of all the stretches I did in PT.

Thanks for the answers guys.
Well I'll definitely get a second doc's opinion on this now.

Since I really dont want to mess this shit up.!!

Border: Bummer to be in cast for so long just to realize it's done nothing to heal up
Steel: 6 months? Holy sheit, how the feck did you survive without going nuts??
Chris: Hurp, you got any good rehab excercises to share?

I did go crazy and I broke it in early May so it was all summer, It would have been better if I would have done surgery right away, But the doc didnt recommend it at first, Hind sight is 20/20

Basically put your hands in a "praying" position and push then do it the other way pushing on the back side of your hands. Then she had me ball my fist and do a circular motion to keep it loose. Hold the stretches for about 30 seconds each 10 times each. Hope that helps.

Going in for surgery on Thursday to finally get a screw put in. I crashed in January and they have been arguing with me that it was a sprain while I kept saying I thought it was a non displaced scaphoid. They finally authorized an MRI and lo and behold, fractured scaphoid. Now he says there is evidence of bone collapse and it will require a bone graft. He says it should have been imobilized and it may have healed. Now it's 10 -12 weeks in a cast. And they wasted all my full time disability that my company pays for stuff like this. Now I'm down to half pay and that will run out before the cast comes off and i can return to work. Gotta love Kaiser....

I don't know if I can stand a cast for that long. They put me in one last week and it's driving me crazy. I am about ready to remove it already.
