Hi All
I have ridden road bikes for around 33 years and tyres to me were black and round and not to expensive, I rode fast and as long as they didn't do anything to bad all was fine, but when it come to trail riding tyres, I have had a few surprises, the tyres I have been using have come off local expert and champ riders and usually only used once with a good edge on one side, is there any problems turning a directional tyre, I know your supposed to loose braking force, not really a problem to me really, but is there any thing on the driving you forward side of things, the tyres are usually Michelin's.
Another thing, I understand about different tyre compounds for terrain, but what about width for terrain, I take it a wider 140 on softer ground/bog would give you better drive with a bigger foot print, but would it loose out on terrain like we have know dry ground with a slick/slippy layer on top, not dig in as much ?
On the soft stuff would there be much of a difference between enduro and mx tyres?
What is making me think about this is I had a 120 S12 given me it was lik new tiny bit of wear on the one edge, fitted it on the bike with the good edge to drive and thought look out this is going to be brill, got to be honest in bogs/soft going it was the worst tyre I have ever had, it wouldn't drive it would big, straight down, you wouldn't feel any forward drive as you gassed it for a bog, just the back end go down, my mate with a knackered co2 had no trouble, This S12 had wide spacing to the knobbles, I have used a 140 S12 with closer to gether knobbles and it was great.
