The A course on the "Poker Run" that hawaiidirtrider is talking about was a tough one. I rode some of that course the following week, not easy! I'd expect any four stroke to be steaming on that course if it didn't have a fan. My KTM300 had it's fan going a whole bunch.
Anyway, I got to ride the Beta for the first time this past Sunday. It was a wet muddy nasty mess, not the best maiden voyage for any bike. I was truly impressed with the chugging power down low and the great mid-top that the 350RR had! I made it up some slimy rooty crappy hills that I had no business making it up at the speed I was going, but the Beta chugged me right up. Later on some open jeep roads It was great at speed. I never touched a clicker on the stock suspension, I think I really only needed a few clicks in the front and that would have made it perfect for me.
What I'm saying is that although this is an RR version, it works as an XC or XCW just as well. No need to wait for any other versions of this bike.

Unless you are thinking of a 200 2T, don't get all misty eye on a "light" 2 stroke. My 300 fully loaded with fuel as you see here is right at about 265lbs.

In order to have a light 2T you have to keep it stripped of all protection and leave the stock fuel cell on. Handguards, skid plate, damper,
UHD tubes, flex bars, desert tank etc all add up to a pork chop with gravy on any bike!

At some point I have to upgrade to a new 2 stroke so I'm keeping tabs of what comes up. Right now the ktm and husaberg 300 are in the top slot unless I make a hybrid bike of some sort.

I see you have a weedeater fest going on! All joking aside, It doesn't get much better than a bulletproof CR and YZ. Yea the 300 is dialed in for "supertanker" rides. I can do an easy 100 miles.
I just test rode a 520 today (while ironing out the details on mine). All I can say is WOW!! This thing has at least as much toque as my XR650R did! Even with stock gearing it just keeps pulling hard (even when a gear or two high)! According to my lift test, it's right in the hunt for lifting over nasty trails. I am thinking it will end up at about 270 or so when the desert tank is full.
I made a few changes in what I'm getting for it. Most notably, I decided to go with UHD tubes instead of the Tubliss system. I'm too chicken to try out that system when I will be 50+ miles from civilization.

What's a few pounds between friends. It's a guestimation . I'd guess it's around the same as my Beta is and I've been charging the harder stuff. So my bike stock wet with blinkers and half a tank of gas was 262 on the scales when I took mine down . So 10lbs more isn't that far off for some guards a big tank etc.. It's around there anyway. I went riding yesterday and had to carry here and there. It's not that bad ..until you ride a nice light 2 stroke to compare against. Actually as long as you are on the bike riding the Beta is awesome.

Machete sheath..hard to figure a good place to put that so it's out of the way. The trails get closed out with growth if we don't open them. Here's how a bunch of guys have their setups.. Not everyone just the deeper trail guys that help cut and keep maintenance. I don't have it mounted on my Beta yet just on my cr. I take it off for races etc but for regular riding it helps alot. The honda one's easy 'cause you can just stay on your bike pull out your machete and hack a couple times for the simple ones to keep the trail open...then keep on riding.
Here look here for ex. if not enough people ride certain places it just closes out and you have to open it up again.

Here's your Beta Motocross bike.. It's shown up on this site for now.. I rather have the 18" rear wheel so I'd rather just get the RR and take off the lights.. unless they worked on the motor a bit.

I don't know I think maybe this one's a better one to get..

I will weigh it like I do all my bikes. You might be right. With my luggage and full tank of fuel just under 300lbs sounds about right. I don't really trip out on weight as long as it's under 300 lbs. My 650R was right at about 325lbs, kick start only, and I could do single track all day long with it.
I know a lot of guys who are really concerned with weight. I have ridden 125 and 200 "superlights". Lots of fun until you are blazing through rocks at high speed or trying to climb a huge, steep, deep sand hill.
One other thing I forgot to mention is I will be carrying this (6 or 10 liter) full of fuel for the long trips:

And in a month or two this:

I'm still nervous about the fuel range with the desert tank. 120 miles or so is not much when blasting through the desert. When you hit the deep sand you really start guzzling fuel! I'm not wanting to stash fuel as I have done in the past.

Man!! That looks to be super duper fun!! Rain forest riding. You are lucky to have such good riding. Now that kind of riding would be PERFECT for the lightest bike possible.

That's a lot of bike for the money! I bet that 350 is set up for single track heaven. Too bad more people don't know what they are missing out on. These Betas are light years ahead of anything the japan or KTM has to offer as a "full package".
