Hey everyone,

First, I'm going to tell you about myself and what I'm looking for in a new-to-me bike.

I am 14 years old
Around 5'4"
Around 100 lb
Semi-aggressive
Looking to progress a lot on whatever bike I choose

Where I rode:

In a field with my neighbor and dad; also a sand pit every once in a while.

I just sold my 2006 honda crf80f and it was way too slow. My neighbor rides a suzuki dvx400 and my dad rides a honda crf250x, and as you can imagine, as I have already said, the crf80 was WAYYYYY to slow. In a new bike, I am looking for:

faster acceleration
a bit taller
something snappy (my 80 was a bit sluggish)
something that will last
something that doesn't need a LOT of maintenance
something that doesn't have a reputation of having problems

Right now, I am looking at CR, YZ, KX, and RM (in that order) 80s, 85s, and 125s (all 2-strokes). Most people are saying that I should go with a 125, as I will grow into it. However, some people (including my dad) think I should get an 85 or 80. I know, I will probably outgrow the 80 by the end of the season, but is that better or worse than having a bike that's too big for me for a whole season?

Thoughts?

you'll get bored of the Supermini bikes so fast,

get any other said 125's, I'd personally go KTM or YZ, they're a blast.

Yeah, I've heard about the kx 100...but I haven't really looked into it all that much. Right now, my bike of choice would be the YZ125.

i was in the same spot as you execpt with no experience and i got a yz125 and i have a blast on it.  I loosened my suspension so i can tippy toe it now it'll be fine as long at you dont do hard trails that you need to catch yourself a lot on.

Hmm, i would say that it's about time to move up to a 125 at that height.
I got my first 125 when i was about same size and it was perfect, and he ccan always modify the seat height if it feels too big.

as much as i love the steel framed cr's. try to find a 2nd or even better yet a 3rd gen cr. 3rd being the gravey.uselly, if your going for a bike you are going to keep for a wile, get the newist bike that your money can buy.

also, 1400 is to steep for that CR. i got my 2002 CR250 for 1300, and it is mint.

the second one appears to be better maintained, but the picture on the ad is five years old. be carefull with craigslist, there are just asa mny scammers as there are honest people.

nate, he wants a 2stroke 125, not a drz/ttr/klx. and i dont think he's going to get anything from tennesse, or california.

At your height, the big wheel mini's really are the way to go (19" front/16" rear).  KX100, CRF150RB (expert), RM100, KTM 105, KTM 85 Big Wheel, CR85 Expert, RM85L are all about the right height for you to control.  Moving from a CRF80F to one of these will be a big step up.  Your CRF80F had less than 10 hp.  These bikes have 27-29 hp, 6 speeds and they rip.  Buy used for a decent price and turn the bike when you are about 5' 8" and are ready for full size bikes (i.e. 125's and up).

You should be able to find a fairly new one in great shape for $1500-$2000 (the Honda CRF150RB's will be quite a bit more).  I think you are making a mistake trying to grow into a 125.  The two stroke bikes (85 cc to 105 cc) are a BIG step up from the CRF80F and weigh only about 150 lbs.  I believe the two stroke 125's are 200+ lbs.

yeah, actually I've decided to go see this one tomorrow. If there's nothing wrong with it, then it's a keeper.
