Hello
I broke my leg * months ago I fractured my fibula and tibia in 2 places.Tibia was a displaced fracture. They plated the tibia and I was in a external fixator for 1 month then a cast for 1.5 months.I had the all clear to ride again and went riding yesterday and broke the same leg in the same spot. The plate broke as well the fibula has a small fracture but is still in line. The tibia has shifted a little bit.The Dr wants to take the plate out and rod install a rod which makes me very happy after reading Amnesias story.I don't have any x rays to post yet.I like how aggressive you are with the way you seem to get people back to some normalcy. Amnesias story is exactly the same as mine.Do you think that I could have the same experience he had I if I came to you?

First off, I seriously doubt that the bone ever healed in the first place. The docs like to deceive themselves by using the "refracture" term.
If you want to have Amnesia's results, you need to come visit me. BTW, I would have rodded yours or Amnesia's tibia fracture from the get-go.

Thanks for the speedy reply I read Amnesias entire post and his and my experience is the same.I live in Florida so it would be a bit of a journey.I know Amnesia traveled from Hartford which totally blows my mind!I really like the way you handle the patient and attention to detail its just the travel time sucks.

You have to weigh the travel difficulties against the difficulties of a broken leg that doesnt want to heal and the retirement home Orthopaedic care available locally.

Good morning Dr Mark due other obligations it would be extremely difficult for me to leave the state.Do you know of any Dr's in south florida that would possibly approach my fracture the same way you would?I am also worried about being away from my family during surgery. Thanks again for responding to me!

My experience has been that it is cheaper and easier to go to dr mark first, than to try to save some trouble and go to someone else local first and then go to dr mark when disaster strikes and the local work turns out to be inadequate.
I've traveled twice from idaho to see him. The plane flight sucked, but it sucked alot more the first time when I had already paid someone else to fix the same problem. At least the 2nd trip I got it done right the first time.

Going in for surgery On monday they are going to remove the plate and then install a titanium rod.I asked if they were going to use a bone graft at the fracture site and he said yes.I am happy about that!
Thanks Dr Mark for answering my questions I would have loved to use your services but it just wasn't possible for me to travel.I hope to report back with positive results and a speedy recovery.

Well its been 2 weeks since getting the rod in my tibia after breaking my leg again and the metal plate. My DR. said I could try and put full weight on it today and I am happy to report that I did and felt no pain at the break. The only place that did hurt just a little is my knee but its getting better everyday. My Dr. said it would take about a month for the knee pain to subside.I am really happy the way things are going and getting back to a normal life is just around the corner!
