I've been doing a lot more track riding lately, and was wondering if anyone has found the gearing for 3rd gear a little high on the track. If so what sprockets did you change to. My bike is a 2006 450x mostly stock except for fmf factory 4.1 not sure what all is done to the carb. I'm far from a pro on the track. I just feel wound out in 2nd and bogged out in 3rd.

If you gear it down three teeth in the back or one in the front, it will pull 3rd better, but 4th will come sooner, and you won't pull it any better....minor tuning changes can help this.

You need to know what state of tune your bike is in.

If you're used to a close ratio gear box you'll have trouble adjusting on the track to the wide ratio gear box on the X....compared to let's say the 450R. It seems gappy because it is. I like stock gearing on the 450X for tighter off road and tracks....13/50. I ran 14/48 almost all the time on my 450X even at times when it seemed boggy....making sure the bike is tuned correctly will make pulling a gear or two too high easier like Krannie says.  HTH

Stock is 13/51.  I agree though with Cubera, I like the stock gearing on the tracks out here. I use 2nd/3rd the most for the tracks out here in Az.
Do you have the stock header on the bike? A powerbomb into that 4.1 compared to stock might also help with power curve.

My bad, dirtdudeaz9.....been awhile since I've been on the 450X...Stock gearing on the 530 is 13/50. I run a powerbomb on my 450R and its got great overrev...fast guy friend has it on his X and loves it. Truthfully I don't mind wide ratio gearboxes on tracks too much especially with big bore thumpers.
