I totally agree with BassJam!

I own a 06 frontier SE v6, 4x4 manual 6 speed and my friend have a 05 tacoma trd v6 4x4 manual 6 speed as well. They are both really good truck and similar in every aspect.

But I also prefer the feeling of the frontier, and the sound of the VQ40DE is just awesome! The tacoma is a great truck but I just can't justify the price difference, not worth it IMO.

There's a reason why the American ranger isn't sold worldwide and it's not because it's so amazing they would sell too many and not be able to keep up with production.
I'll vouch for that. I have a new Ranger crew cab diesel with a 5 speed and manual t-case. Built like a tank, excellent power and easy on diesel.

Toyota. There's a reason they more money. They are the best build mass produced truck out there. But I should add... I drive a 1997 Ford Ranger 2wd 4 Cyl. w/100k. it gets (25 mpg). If you can find one of these rust free and under 100k buy it. The 4wd V6 Rangers suck. There's a reason they are used as small delivery trucks a lot. I never worry about it when it sits in the woods 5 hours unattended while I ride.
Note: I also own a 1993 Yoyota T-100 4wd w/54k miles. At (16 mpg) it sits in my drive way. Why anyone would spend $40k on a pick up truck make's me wonder. Might be worth mentioning I'm a GM automotive Service Consultant. I've been in the auto service industry since 1983.

So I guess your not in Kansas anymore then? Their not bringing that state side are they? It would be nice if they would but then they probably wouldn't sell many f-150s. I like the look of the international ranger but the canyon on the other hand looks like a freakin malibu with a truck body. Anyone else see it? Their actually supposed to be selling this here in the next year or two.

And from what the other posts are saying, it seems like if you can't find a decent deal on a Tacoma just get a frontier. Still a solid truck that's very nice compared to it's domestic counterparts.

I bought one in Dominica since I'm there a bit.

Used 2nd Gen Tacomas are almost harder to find than new trucks right now. I just bought a 2006 Tacoma Pre Runner TRD model with 50,000 miles...   I looked everywhere, there are a lot of double cabs out there but I really wanted an Access Cab.

Most used trucks out there have 80,000 + miles on them. I looked at a couple dealerships real good before buying mine and dealers would barely budge on the price. They just know they are gonna sell easily so they dont have to give them away.

Right now I could easily put another 40,000 miles on my truck and just about sell it for the same price I paid for it!!!  The Tacoma is a very hot truck right now, and they hold their value. I almost bought a older Tundra but after doing some research it just made since to spend a little extra for something nicer.

Just do some research and decide what you like best, I already own a Toyota 4Runner so buying the Tacoma was a no-brainer for me. I'd also suggest you check out the forums for both Frontiers and Tacomas to see what people say about them. I'm sure they both have a few minor issues people complain about in the long run. I don't know the forum for the Frontier but for the Tacoma check out Tacomaworld.com

Colorado's just aren't that impressive either the 5cyl isn't that great some do have the little 5.3 which is just about overkill, why can't they just put a decent v6 in the thing?

I completely agree that the Colorado is subpar...but the 5 cylinder isn't a turd.  The key is to get an 07 or newer.  The initial 5 cylinders (04-07) were a 3.5L and were pretty anemic.  But in 07 they put a 3.7L in that ran pretty good.  My roommate ran his 07 against me in a "mock" 1/4 mile on a back road and he was only a length behind me back when my truck was stock.  We also used to both tow a 500gal tank of water for our cistern.  While with a trailer the weight exceeded his tow rating...the truck still pulled it ok.  It struggled when it had to go up hills, but it still did fine.  He agreed after riding with me once on a water hauling trip though that my truck did a lot better, at least on the hill.

I would buy the frontier in this case. I don't really care what people say, i don't think the Yota's are worth what they are going for used, even though they are great trucks.

Its not as if frontiers are really much cheaper - used.

A decked out 2008 4x4 crew cab frontier with 42,0000 miles   retails for $ 24,600*......... .........thats crazy if u ask me.......but the market is the market.

*(kelly blue book retail value for 2008 4x4 crew cab with every option)

If you want a used small truck at  much lower price,  need to check out Gov motors'  Colorado.

The days of glut with used vehicles  are long long gone.

How do you get a retail price for a "decked out 08 Frontier"? But anyway, I've seen trucks like you listed for around 18-20k around here. But what i also meant by the insane prices on Yotas was that i've seen late 90's, early 2000's Tacoma's with a 4 cyl, 4WD and 180,000 miles listed for $8k......

Used Tacomas demand a high price no matter the mileage or year.  For this reason I ended up with a newer Tundra in the same price range with less miles then any Tacoma I was looking at.  I was actually at the Toyota dealer today looking at newer Tundras and looked at a few Tacomas.  If you are looking at a late model one it is almost worth the little extra to buy new IMO.  Also the salesman I talked to said Toyota is currently offering 0% for 60 months, not sure if that was only on new Tundras though.

Wow, that was cheap, just sold my 98 TRD Tacoma for $13,500!!!! I bought it new, always garaged. Blue Book on it was $7,800 with 60K miles. I said no way. They go all day long for $4K-$5K over kelly blue book (private party)

The cash for clunkers program removed lots of real nice used cars which drove up prices for the rest.

Well everything here is rusted out, and Toyota's have crap frames, so that probably has some affect...but seriously, why is the resale on them so high?

We use no salt here. I have no idea, I was surprised when I checked Craigslist. I paid just under 25K brand new. I got more than half of what I paid for it 14 yrs later with 60K miles. Heated garage its entire life. I added so many things to that truck using factory parts.

Great truck.

I have only a few photos of it.

14 years and only 60,000 miles?!!! Do you walk everywhere? I don't have to drive all that far to work and there's no way I could have a vehicle that long and put that few miles on it. You must have several vehicles. I've had the truck I'm driving now 2 months less than 4 years and have almost 72,000 miles on it. I had one truck a little over 10 years and had over 198,000 miles on it.

Yotas hold their value for a reason.  I bought a 15K 4runner in 94, my brother and two friends bought similar Explorers. I still have my 4Runner with 270K on it, not for sale thank you.  My brother has worn out his second Exploder with 100K on each.  My friends have bought several cars since then.

I went through a tacoma phase in 2000 when I bought a brand new extended cab v6 4wd tacoma for 20k.  It was a great truck but they are a little overpriced nowadays.  I liked that body style but kind of dislike the new bodystyles.  To me, they are too rounded and big, might as well get a tundra.  The fuel mileage is about the same I think, nothing to write home about.  If your wanting to save money, get an older 4runner, basically the same as the tacoma but seem to sell MUCH cheaper.

I have a tacoma and love it. It is a 2005 with 106,000 miles and not a single problem. Never owned a nissan, so don't know much about them.

Well I figure since I have owned both I might as well get in on the discussion. They are both awesome trucks. The Toyota I owned was manual everything down to the steering. Not a single issue on that truck. Just kept changing the oil and airfilter and it kept going. Including multiple trips to Mexico to surf. Now fast forward to today, I own a Frontier. I looked at Tacoma's but after researching them vs. the Frontier I went ahead and tried out the Nissan. Love my truck. It has Tacoma tires over stock rims with a Borla exhaust and a small 8" sub under the rear passenger seat. Great daily driver and hauls the bikes to Kahuku's on the weekends for riding. One thing that I love about the Nissan is this-- I noticed that the fuel guage was messing up occasionally. It turned out to be a bad fuel sender. The truck being an '06 and out of warranty I was running the gas out to drop the fuel tank to do the repair when I go to order the parts and the dealer said to bring it down that they would fix it. Nissan said it was defective so they would change it on their dime. Now this is not going to be different from Toyota, but I just like the way it went down. Couple that with the fact that the truck is comfortable drives great and was cheap on the buy and I love my truck. Either one you get you are going to get your moneys worth. Question is how much are you going to spend.

Nissan and Toyota=
