i put both the carb and pipe on together and got out this weekend to do my first real riding with it. i put about 250 mile on the last two days little highway some dirt roads but mainly twisty canyon roads. i was expecting my mpg to go down but i think that they may have actually gotten a little better. i get am getting a little better than 60 and was a little lower than 60 with the stock carb and stock pipe. why do so many people report worse mpg with the pumper carb?

This topic is usually related to how much you turn the throttle....For most , when you have extra power , it tends to encourage more wrist movement...
Though Good fuel economy is obtainable from an Fcr if ridden smooth..
Just a side note....My bombed 485 gets better economy than when it was stock if ridden smoothly...but way worse when going hard....
And the BB E gets better economy now than when it was stock bore...
For me, performance upgrades are to increase the smile factor and not the fuel economy....

Agree 100% My 475 gets close to 60, where as my stock bike was low to mid 50's. I only get around 30 or so on the track or in the mtn's.

o no doubt it is way more fun to carnk on the throttle, i just thought everyone rode like that, thats why i was confused...... idk if i could ever go thru a whole tank easy enuff to see the economy hit 60!

I get only 38 on my stock motor stock cams, mrd SSW and fcr 39 not mx 07 sm...but like craigo mentioned, its how happy you are with that throttle, me, I'm overly excited

I'm happy to hear your results, quick. One of the reasons I've been reluctant to make any change is the mpg results I've read from others that have done upgrades. Sometimes I think mebbe their numbers are off because the odo reads off the front tire, and theirs spends 1/3 of its time in the air.

Last week I was taking it easy of the throttle and got a little over 100 miles on 2.2 gallons. Last fill up i got 86 before hitting the reserve after spending 60 miles on the highway and a long time above 70 mph on some backroads...its all in the wrist.

with hotcams/fcr39mx/mrdssw I probably average 45. some tanks are better, some are worse--like other have said, it depends on the wrist.

what i have noticed here in utah is that i do not have to hold the throttle wide open going up steep grades like i used to. i can give it less gas and still hold a steady speed. also with the stock carb and pipe when going down hill i would have to give it gas or it would just slow down. now it keeps on going down the hills till i hit the breaks. take offs require less throttle for the same results as before and if i do get on it i can not stay on it for long before speeding.

I average 49mpg or so around town and about 55-56mpg if all interstate highway with my 39FCR-MX.But when I first got it the bike only got 35mpg.All circuits were jetted wicked rich.My stock motor didn't like the provided emn or emr needle nor the 45 pilot jet.
