Hey guys---sorry for a redundant topic, but I'm surfing on my phone this week. So...picked up a brand new leftover '09 WR250F and she feels like 50% the power of the sister YZF. What's the deal with uncorking this thing?  Grey wire?  Throttle stop?  Say it ain't so?  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Walt

Yip, do the grey wire, throttle stop, and the AIV removal.  When I bought mine (also leftover new), the dealer agreed to do these things for me.  By the time they got in the AIV kit (which has jets in it), and the exhaust insert, I had already put on a Vance and Hines slip on and done the throttle stop and grey wire myself.  the dealer agreed to try to tune the carb with the jets to run with the V&H pipe, since they reccomend no jet change for their pipe.  The jets that came with the kit worked perfectly with the V&H pipe.  The bike runs awesome now.

Just cut yours down. No need to buy a new one. All of the old free mods apply to your bike just the grey wire is in a different spot. Do them all including YZ cam timing

You shouldnt even have to cut it down....when u bought the AIS removal kit it should have came with a shortened throttle stop. My kit from GYTR did.

One tip is to only remove it if you have to. The throttle stop and some of the jets, including the needle, can all be replaced with the carb in place. Just search the forum for techniques on how to do it.

Taking the bowl off with the stock phillips screws is a challenge but doable. Replace them with allen screws for easier removal in the future.

Use JIS screwdrivers not Phillips. If you don't know what they are then google it. Not a lot of places sell them but they save headaches.

*Update* Needle, Leak, and Main Jets swapped without completely removing carb. AIS removal  compete and snorkel removed. Bike is TWICE as fast! I went from extremely disappointed to more than impressed. Ole WR is now faster than my buddies' 08 KXF.

Thanks TT!

I also bought an 09 leftover...must be a lot of good deals going around!  Anyway,  the thing was laughable in stock form. I did ride it once that way to break it in.  Did all the free mods and rode again....I was much happier.  Added a few teeth to the rear sprocket, plus an FMF megabomb and powerecore 4...all smiles.  This thing is a blast.  You can ride it slow and climb like a billy goat or touch the clutch and let her rip.

It felt slow because it is SLOW!  Very slow.  Do the free mods like everyone says and you will be happy for a few weeks.  Then buy a used YZ exhaust off ebay, works as good or better than after market pipes for maybe $100 tops.  Then get some YZ stock cams off ebay for $50.  That will wake it up and keep you happy for a few more months.  Then pull your head and send it to a builder to get ported for $800.. Then get a big bore kit, the 290 not the 270.  Once you have all that invested, it's time to replace the valves so sell your WR for half of what you have in it and get a YZ250 two stroke.
