Cool lookin' engine ...apparently 44 to 48 hp CrHP depending on pipe / setup,
or 56hp on methanol ...  weighs 35lbs complete, with pipe. Used for Kart racing.

When I was 14, the race karts were powered by things like McCullough 75's and 90's that had horizontal cylinders and the reed intake was directly on the opposite side of the crank from the bore center.  The Mac utility engines was where people got the reeds they used for the first aftermarket reed valve conversions on dirt bikes.  Nothing really new about that part of it.

Nope, nothing new at all - never said there was! - and hey, don't forget the Mac 101!  That was THE kart motor to have when I was a kid, at least in my neck of the woods.

Here's a recent race in the Unlimited All Stars kart class.
The white and blue #33 kart has a BRC 150, guessing
its on methanol, 50+hp, 14 to 15,000 rpm.  Its an open
class, and apparently some of the other karts are running
Wankels that are about 300cc, CR 250's, YZ 450's, etc.
It runs a belt to a jackshaft clutch, and i heard a bolt came
undone, or broke on the clutch, which caused the DNF...bummer

Whoa ! ...i guess they did'nt think 1 was fast enough,
so they built a twin engine kart ! ?
90 to 110 hp at 14 to 15000 rpm, depending on fuel,
and the kart supposedly only weighs about 210 to 220,
without driver ...thats "nuts" ! 5+ pages about the build...
The engines with the red heads are 150cc, the pics with
the other engines are 100cc

"Back in the day", karts with twin or even triple Mac 75's were what ruled the higher classes.

How much HP did the Mac 75's have ?
This kart should have about 90hp on gas,
or 100 to 110hp on methanol, and it
apparently will only weigh about 210 lbs,
without the driver. 1 engine is supposed to
be about as fast as a well built 125 shifter
kart ... 2 engines must be rather insane ! ?

Don't remember.  There were a lot of exaggerated claims in the pits, of course, and nothing about the karts we had then matches up with the current stuff.  The MC75 was 118cc, so realistically, figure 25 - 30 hp each.

Maybe.
