Doesn't look like the 'Utes, John.  Do you need a green sticker, Adventure, Cal City & Randsburg passes, and a CARB inspection?

Sweet!  Tell me BT - do palm trees hurt any less than pine trees when you smack into them?  Could be a deciding factor here.....

BTW, those trails look MUCH better than the bike annihilating, traumatizing, body destroying trails I've seen in HI,  A much better tropical riding alternative I thinks....  I'm still worried about palm trees though....awaiting your answer.  Nursing a broken rib (from a NON-riding incident) right now  , and the thought of anything hard that doesn't move when I hit it is not encouraging to me right now.......

Flor de Cana rum and pineapple juice for me, after beer.
No monkeys anymore

Hard to ride to an island, unless you're Pastrana.

BP, non-riding? Who would have thought....Palms are ok, should have seen that spider I picked up in there
Didn't have the battery charged good for the real trails  , I'll do a slide show/vid of the good stuff later.

After getting a call from my buddy in Utah, http://gasgasofmoab.com , saying that he got his tickets for Costa Rica, I cleaned up my work schedule and snuck away for a quick 10 days.

I realized I forgot my helmet when I got to LAX, guess I could always buy one there at an inflated price, or go Alex Amato style sans casco?
No biggie, as they asked if I wanted a $500 voucher to be bumped to the direct flight, woohoo free trip coming up!

Returned to the airport for my 1:45 am direct flight (with helmet), slept on the plane and arrived SJO 9am their time. Thought about just renting a bike but the logistics weren't right.

Looked at some used bikes;

Ended up buying this;

Unfortunately, I had about 200 km of pavement to do to meet my friend in Playa Junquilall before sunset. Made it just as the sun sank into a beautiful tropical ocean....

So you bought an almost new bike (I'm guessing a Husaberg) for 10 days in Costa Rica?

Why, yes I did, 10 days and a lifetime is the plan. Going to quit this day job, when my son is older, and make a life down there.
All TT members will get a 10% discount on mototours, after I artificially raise the price by 20%......

So I made it to the bar on the beach right as the sun set in a tropical blaze of glory. Perfect timing! Met up with my friend and had a free room on the beach for the night. Woke up to perfect 1' surf, good thing I had a bike.

This was a naughty monkey

My buddy Jim, he wants to import GasGas 300's down there, gasgasofcostarica.com?
Posted Image

We took off south, had to meet another guy who lives near Samara and wants to run dirt bike tours on the Nicoya.
I had never been down this stretch of coast before, as I always go in the rainy season. Easily passable on a bike, all dirt roads and the rivers were low.
Had to stop every so often for a pic

Whats the draw for Costa Rica ?  None of the videos I have seen make the riding look very interesting. Stuff from Idaho or Oregon looks better.

Is it just the tropical climate ?  Bugs the size of small airplanes ?  Rum in your Camelback ?  Hot brown skinned chicks ?

I thought that Pilsen beer was El Slavadoran??

CR and all of Central America are pretty cool places, I've been around a bunch and have a friend who moved to Panama.  Another is involved in a surf camp in Tamarindo, they actually do pretty well even in this crappy economy, and despite the constant graft.  Might want to read "Don't stop the carnival" if you're planning an epic business adventure.....it does sound super cool and it's a beautiful place!

Pilsener is Savadoran, all of Latin America has a German beer making heritage.

Norman Paperman doesn't have anything on this future ex-pat! I don't expect to make much money down there, but life isn't about money.

Duuuude, I surf too.

Have you been to Oregon or Idaho? Have you gone outside the states? There's more to life than some cold arse/burning hot wasteland......and the climate in CR is tropical at the beaches to alpine in the mountains.
Posted Image
Idaho reminds me of Costa Rica, steep mountains, running water, green green green, just drier and the mountains close most of the year. That will be my escape home base in the Estados Unidos.
My lady fell in love with CR, that was good enough for me. We've been trying to make it down there twice a year.
I had always dreamed of living in Michoacan, Mx like a bandito. CR is like disneyland compared to there. Tropical waves from the west, south and east, mountains up to 12k', world class fishing & scuba, white water, canyoning, volcanoes, hot springs, waterfalls, moto-friendly, everything but snow. Is there another country whose slogan is "pure life"?

Kids are grown and living elsewhere, not much left in crowded commie California except slave work for me (and some beautiful places).
Better videos to come. I'm just learning the trails down there. Memory card filled up as we got to the last trail last trip. What a trail! This trip I'll be riding more inland, checking out some new trails....

Dam it!  Last time this thread was up I was nursing a broken rib,  This time, it's a broken shoulder/collarbone, torn rotator and reinjured broken back.  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:   Want to ride again....  Want to ride again... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:  CR looks bad azz.....

You got my interest when you said CR reminds you of Idaho.  I just haven't seen it in any videos of CR yet.  I know it pulls at the surf guys...  but was wondering if most of the riding was just island two track along the beach.

Looking forward to when you can post the good stuff.

CR, Panama and Colombia have the hottest chicks over all of Centro America!

I can't imagine any riding near the coastal areas, it's so hot and humid most of the time.

CR is beautiful and if if you're a pensionista you're gold there. Regarding commiefornia, you're not escaping any BS at all you're just trading licatinons, language and culture.

I'm not at all dissing that dream, just speaking from a few friends current experiences. Good luck and love the pix! Maybe moto surf tours!

I'll maybe post some surf pics upon my return. Doubt I'll throw my leg over a bike, but you never know...
