Running Rough

Today I rode at Club Moto and the bike ran kinda rough for the first time ever.  The weather was clear and about 70 degrees in the morning, warming up to about 80 in the afternoon.  The bike was popping slightly at hi revs and at deceleration.  I adjusted the fuel screw a couple of times going in (counterclockwise) and it finally cleaned up.  I ended up about 3/4 turn out from fully seated before it cleaned up.  But it did clean up!

Is this "normal" ?  I was out about 2 to 2 1/2 turns before and it was running well the last time I rode about 2 weeks ago.  It was a bit warmer last time, about low to mid 90's.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael

Turning the fuel screw in is leaner. The setting should need to be richer in most cases.

Make sure the filter is clean and maybe clean the carb if more problems persist.

Thanks James.  I thought the same thing, cooler weather go richer.  But the opposite happened, I went leaner and it cleaned up...weird.

I thought someone might have heard of this one before.  The bke has been kept in immaculate condition, air filter cleaned every ride (even if it still looks clean) and oil changed every other ride.  I only have a total of about 20-25 hours on the bike.  It's always started easy and run clean, so yesterday kind of surprised me when it was popping a little.

I will check the air filter and the carb and let you know what I find, if anything.

Thanks again for your reply and suggestion.

I second that. It's not too hard to get a little speck of something in your pilot jet which will cause your bike to run richer than it should. It's happened to me ...!

BTW - I've started to ride out there quite a bit. White Trooper with a #53 YZ426. Stop by and say hi. Usually Tue/Thur nights but a weekend here and there too.
