Anyone else think that Go Pro's are just too expensive for those that just want to just film casually and not seriously? i found this sweet product that turns your iphone into a nice little pov cam, check out the video

no need that shell out the £££'s for the latest Go Pro's anymore!

Spam much?  Sheesh.

OTOH, I agree that GoPros are expensive, so I got one of these for $10.  Actually, I got two.

Eh....I'll pass.

Most decent phones are much more expensive than any of the action cameras available and tend to break if you just drop them.  I would never strap my android to my body and go ride. One good spill and the screen would be toast. Plus that picture quality was terrible.  If that's the bar thats being used for quality there are 15 dollar cameras out there that will do a similar job.

Phone cameras are simply not up to the task of capturing hi speed sports and should be used only for their intended purpose, sexting! :bonk:

I for one, will not buy an I-phone, really do not see the need to waste time screwin around on a phone with all those different apps. A Go-Pro however would worth the investment and time screwin around with.

a few things

the iphone is not wide angle - the wide angle part makes the video less choppy

there are some cases out there for iphones that make it pretty close to indestructable the iphone life case is one

however these cases are $100 and dont have the mounts

To many other fun things you can do with a GoPro that I would never do with an i-phone... Like give it to this guy

For the infinite amount of things the gopro is capable of, and the shit that you can put it through, it is worth every penny. The picture is so clear, and everything about the gopro is just awesome. Little bugs here and there on occasion but I could care less. One single camera I can use for surfing, riding dirt and street, and use to film skateboarding because of the lcd backpack, and use it as a regular hd picture camera. 300 bucks is dirt cheap if you ask me.

same here man, my gramps showed me a microwave he paid a grand for, and back then a grand was the same as 3 grand today, i will never complain about electronics cost

If they didnt break the glass door though, I bet that thing still works! My parents had one of the first ones as a handmedown from my grandparents. Worked forever until the door broke due to getting slammed super hard. Whole thing heavy metal.

This.
Granted, you need to buy an SD card too, so the $10 price tag is a little higher, but they work pretty well. Do you really need 1080p video? Do you understand the difference between 1080i and 720p, once you upload to youtube is zero? They're expensive because that's what GoPro can sell them for, if you want to pay less, there are plenty of other sensible options. A $400 Steve Jobs contribution isn't sensible.

When you see what the other options, bought directly from China, cost, you realize that the GoPro is definitely priced at a premium.

Considering what your options were about 5 years ago, though, they are priced at a point where people will pay it, so why not?

iphones actually have a really bad camera for POV unfortunately.  You'll notice they produce a lot of 'wobble' for any type of vibration.  It's an issue with the way the video is recorded onto the camera.  The top half of the image contains frame x and the bottom half contains frame x + 1 .

interesting, so is it that they record at half resolution and then use a doubler algorithm? if so then that would explain why anything with motion or detail comes out as pretty shitty.

Go Pro expensive? I thought so to until my wife bought one for my son and now I've seen what it can do. I'm sure there are alternatives out there but the GoPro have it together, we have had zero issues and the video and still images are fantastic. It takes some effort and trial and error when mounting and aiming but when you get past that stage ( and it isn't hard) the results easily justify the cost for me.

For its size and weight, the GoPro is hard to beat and its price is incredibly low for what it is. Heck, it is even used for action shots in TV shows. Definitely worth its price, if not more.

Now if it's out of your budget, there are other options like mentioned earlier. Older GoPro models or used ones, Contour... Even the $10 spy cam will do. I own one, but never use it. The refresh rate and picture quality are so bad, I get nausea watching it.
