Hello Fellow Thumpertalkers.

For my research project I am working out what "the best way to learn to ride a dirt bike is".

Please Take 10-15 Minutes out of your time to fill in my survey.

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NX9QR69

If once you have completed the survey if you still want to help me out please send me a message so we can talk (interview) about your feelings/opinions about the best way to learn how to ride.

Thanks Heaps
Kurt Whittingham

I think a better set of basics are needed for a successfull transition. I would even say an advanced set of athletic skills and bicycling would be ideal.

start them early, no training wheels. They have to want to learn, be able to start and pickup the bike. Then it's just learning different bike skills in an appropriate order and advancing slow enough to have a good grasp on what you just learned so you can build upon previous skills experience.

good luck, I just went through this with my 2 boys age 10 and 12 when they started to ride.

The biggest issue was finding a safe place for them to ride consistently, as they cant ride in the neighborhood with out pissing off the neighbors.

It took 2 years to find a local ATV park that only has about 100 riders, where they can ride all day without the crazies like the big atv parks.

we went to a few big atv parks to start and i found them just hanging around me and riding close to camp, so we joined this smaller park and they feel much better riding on their own and practicing on their own.

We have a small motocross track, trails and open stretches so they can get in the various terrains

I think the biggest thing is the parent spending time with the kid so they can learn how to ride
