To the modern bikes (would or can it be competitive?)

What if any issues did the early 2000's gasgas's have?

Thanks

they are very very similar to the same year KX250, with more bottom end, smoother power, and softer suspension for offroad use

I'm currently riding an '01 EC250. Feels just like my '95 KX250(just sitting there). Once I let out the clutch, the similarities end. I put down some serious "woods" miles. At the end of the day, I can still walk. My KX has similar "fat guy" springs, but it's still an MX bike, and beats me up pretty good.

I have a 2003 GasGas and love it. If the bike is in good condition you wont have any regrets.

I have an 02 with factory Ohlins, it is a great bike and as good or better in the woods as some modern bikes. Stands up just fine. 2 stokes have not changed a ton int he last 10-15 years. I like it a good bit better than my buddies 09 KTM 250. Better motor and suspension. Might turn better too. Nothing wrong with those old machines.

A good friend is a GG dealer and he has a few of his own. I rode his 02 250 in a HS last year, it beat me up pretty bad compared to my 05 KX250. But his 08 300 was Heaven. My son even took the 300 and this guys' Dads 2010 250 out on the MX track and said it felt as good as his KX125, which is setup for him. He said it was so comfortable and stuck like glue in every turn.

I like them, but the seat to peg is too short for me.

Im thinking about an 07 EC250, any input on this bike? He wants a little over 2k.
Did they come with an open MSO like KTM. Id like to have it street legal.

I got an 07, has many updates over the previous years, i know it has a stronger subframe, the new plastics, airbox, I think the frame geometry was changed. I got mine for 2.5k and its a great bike, a big step up over my previous YZ250. I also have an 2000 GG 250. Its a good bike but i just feel way more confident on my 07, the suspension and frame geometry just feels better built for racing and less of just a trail bike. Mine just had an open MSO I believe.

Here's part of my ride today on an 01 gasgas 300...new tight and in the rain... It works great so I figure your 03 is better. It runs a little small for me but it's great for this stuff where I have to duck . The motor is awesome. It lugs and it's smooth but still has a bunch on top if you want it.  I like Ride's ride. I wish I had the ohlins up front like his. Mine are only the shock.

Thanks for the vid clip...looks great.

i raced the 03 yesterday at a local HS that was a mud fest. Everyone was slipping & sliding. Had my normal poor start & was moving up the pack putting the little gasgas through the ringer. Made some passes (on coarse) through virgin log stuff to get around a few and blitzed over everything well with control. Later, ended up getting caught in a deep rut going on a long uphill where a fellow was having some problems (like most everyone else) and ended up catching his rear tire and off the bike I go. Pick back up & start going again but soon realize that I crushed the flimzee right rad. and was leaking fluid. I had a moose guard on but didnt have back support so bent it up/back so was it for the day.
I think I like the gasgas, to soon to tell, but it cuts/shreds well and the susp. is good. I found 2nd gear to high to climb most mud hills & had to be aggressive in 1st gear for speed up the hills (which isn't the best in mud...lol) I'm running 13 - 50 sprocket combo.

Dunno but a lot and was ran an entire race without coolant, Still ran real good. Was in there when i bought the bike last year and continued to ride it a ton this winter as my "winter thrasher / buddy bike" Cylinder looks like new and piston looked good but has some blowby.

Hard to find a GG h8r out there really. Hey Ride, is that a new Namura piston? I got one in my Honda CR250. No problems.

I'm hoping for no problems as it is headed for 4 days of thrashing at Moab tomorrow. Woooohooooo. Time to go to bed.

Fantastic looking bike, Ride! My mate has a 00 or 01 EC250 that looks like death but still goes well, he's looking for a new set of plastics, I'll have to show him how good yours looks, he won't believe it
