If I am hard on the throttle it seems to run fine. If I am at steady throttle 2nd or 3rd running on a trail it seems to run a little rough lurch kind of. At one point in time last ride out I was riding down the trail and it quit just like I was out of gas I was still rolling so I bump started it. It started right up and never did it again. Could it be the jetting? Do I need to raise the needle a clip? To my knowledge its the stock jets and settings from the factory. I am riding at 2800 ft hot temps 80-100 degrees. Desert trail riding for the most part. I am new to the carb and jetting game so bear with me. I haven't been in the carb or taken it off yet. I am a little hesitant just because its the unknown I guess. I am very mechanical though. I have been reading up as much as possible on jetting. Does this sound like a case for a jd jetting kit using the red needle? :) I am ready and willing to get into it and make it run smooth. I love this bike and want to be able to use its full potential as I get to be a better rider.

Riding at elevation requires leaner jetting.

Riding in hot temps requires leaner jetting.

You've got both!

Raise the clip one position to lean it at mid-throttle position.

I have a 426 and I am using the stock needle on the 3rd clip, with a 40 pilot now (temps in the 60-70's). You might need the same, and should buy a 38 pilot while you are at it.

You can change the clip and pilot jet with the carb on the bike in 15 minutes, but if it your first time, just remove it so you can tinker. Be careful not to reinstall the slide upside down if you remove it.

I am riding locally tomorrow this will give me a chance to see if it runs better at lower elevation and cooler temps. Then I will be going to the cycle shop to get some jets and see if I can help this situation. Thank You

FYI - you can buy the pilot (slow) and main jets from the TT store! I didn't know that until today...

I bought a new twin air dual stage filter a 40 and 38 pilot jet. They b/o the 40 pj when my order got here yest. I took every thing apart and have moved my needle to 3 down fron the top and installed the 38pj. I am riding at El Mirage this weekend it should be around 100 degrees and its elev 2800. I hope thats not too lean I guess I will find out right away.  :)
