Hi!
Many times during off road riding the bike stops, so I have to find neutral, which is a pita (I must change the thrust washers & do the clearance yet..), to start it once again. When on gear, the starter is dead. So I would like to know, what should I do, to be able to start the bike with the gear ingaged (clutch pulled obviously!).
I can do it with my 2008 F650GS,and I can't with my 98 DR350SE  ... I have already eliminated the kick stand switch if this is of any interference.
I presume I must connect some wires together etc, but which?

My guess is it is the clutch switch.  The clutch switch goes into a pair of bullet connectors behind the headlight and as one is male and one is female just plug one into the other and it's all done.

It certainly sounds like the clutch lever safety switch.
The wire could have come disconnected or the switch itself could be bad.
As mentioned follow the wires from the clutch lever to the connection behind the headlight and reconnect, or bypass the safety switch by connecting the wires behind the headlight together. Suzi made it easy since one wire has a male end and the other is female.
Bypass the safety switch at your own risk.....

Today I went for a ride, and I noticed that if the cluch lever was not pulled, even on gear, the starter would work.Of course, you couldn't start the bike this way. Once the cluch lever was pulled, the starter was dead... So It must be that!
One of the following days I will fix it, and let you know!
