I had the same problem. I bought Avon Distanzias and Pirelli MT60 RS's. They are 120/70 17's and 160/60 17's. I haven't tried them yet, I was waiting for someone else to give a ride report first. The Pirellis are knobbied up pretty deep, but the Distanzias are just heavily grooved street tires. I was even contemplating buying a used TE front end so I can run some real dirt tires.

I've taken my bike on some big grass fields and some hard packed dirt with SM tires and the front end had very little grip. Plus, I can't see going on any single tracks with that huge 320mm front rotor. If you take your SMR on the trails, would you let me know how it holds up?

Go to Cafe Husky and ask Woodschick what's on her SM 610. She regularly takes it out exploring and it's been to Baja.

She's a mod over there so easy to find.
