I liked the stock suspension also, just miss the small bump ride... I kinda like using all 13 inches instead of 10...

The 2012 450sxf stock oil height is 365ml, the SE is 390ML. The SE also has 3 preload spacers rather than 2 of the 2012 450. I have 4.5 hrs on mine and have put the oil height at 365 and removed one of the preload spacers in each fork. Still 2 inches from  bottomming... Boy the valving must be pretty stiff from the 12 450... still working on it...

Once you softened the front up was it noticeably plusher?  Also did this make the rear feel too stiff?

I've decided that the valving is just too stiff... both front and rear...

Has anyone tried the mapping tool?  After the first ride (compared to my 2010 yz450f) the motor is geared really high. Cant take any corners in 3rd.  13t to the front should help a lot.  otherwise the handling of this bike is amazing. ordering a Fmf full system for it today also.

So I have now ridden my 450FE at a couple of different tracks and as the suspension has loosened up that too stiff valving I was feeling early on is starting to feel pretty good now, especially at speed...instills confidence to charge harder.  Not going to change anything other than clickers for now.  Still like light clutch pull effort and smooth engine power: really make this bike easy to ride....corners great and changes directions very easily and overall feels agile....a few pics from a recent ride....

fwiw  ...  I pulled the trigger on an FMF 4.1 ....  and I gotta say ... well worth the money.

However, the absolute and total nightmare of pulling off the stock exhaust leaves me wanting to beat the POS who designed the OEM exhaust ...

But, the power is much better although a lot louder...

Does the mega bomb header stick out enough to burn your boots?  I remember that FMF mega header on my 350XCF touching my boots sometimes.  Post some pics of the new system.

Let me know if you have any fitment issues, I have had mine for about 2 months now and my silencer rubs my tire and my mid pipe was hitting my shock spring. I sent it back to Fmf and they basically smashed a bigger dent in it and had to weld the area they smashed because it was so caved in. They are supposed to send me another mid pipe and are hopefully going to send another silencer since it has rubbed off alot of blue anadization. I am not very happy about this needless to say.

No rubbing on the silencer..

Shock area is questionable ... but havent noticed anything YET .... otherwise  all looks good.

KTM engineers should be shot for their header design.

450FE has way more power and response feeling pretty much everywhere....also more inertia and compression braking compared to the 350.  The 450FE is agile and so easy to ride with smooth power....no need to rev it out so much - just effortless accelleration.  I really like the light pull clutch on the 450FE also.  Both are fun bikes.  Just have to realize the character of each bike....you have to rev out the 350 a lot to run with the 450's but it "feels" a little lighter.  The 450FE revs very quickly yet pulls smoothly and hooks up all while feeling pretty light too...I wonder how much better the 2013 350's will feel with the head mods and new EFI throttle body...

I do have the new Dungey replica with about 6 hours on it. Like many that have posted here, I find the bike handles very well and feels planted in the corners. The suspension was/is a bit stiff, but I am hoping it smoothes out in the next 5 hours or so. I do feel it is lacking in the torque department, especially using 3rd gear in turns. I feel like I am riding a 2 stroke sort of with the higher revving motor and have to shift a little more than my old 2010 KTM450. I see where someone bought the FMF pipe and said it improved the power, was it noticeable on the bottom end? Has anyone tried the full set up with the Akrapovic exhaust? I want to get one of these two exhausts, not sure yet which one. And I will go up one tooth in the rear and see if that helps.

Thanks for any responses

Here's what I've done:
1. FMF 4.1 Ti ...  Akropovich is WAY too much money ...  $670 vs. $1200 at the prices I get ...
2. Mapping ... I played with the mapping and made my own aggressive map ... posted here :  http://steve841.dlinkddns.com   made it peppier .... nothing drastic.
3. Added one more tooth to rear ...

With this combo ...its a much happier ride.  Stock has good low to a great mid .. .then flat.   This combo (especially the pipe made it all come around with decent pull in to top end.)

Thanks Steve for your reply.

Yes the Akrapovic is expensive, just wondering the output of that exhaust on the bike. I will more than likely go with the FMF as I have the same set up on my 2010 and it works great. The extra tooth is a must if not 2, but I hear it makes it go through the gears quicker...Thanks for your link to the mapping, I have to figure out how to open it on my Mac now.

My dealer treats me very good ....

Don't think that's a public deal....
