I need a top  end GASKET KIT for my XR200R that has a 66mm piston. Is there anyone else other than wiseco or powroll that sells one?. I spent the last hour and a half on the web and on this site searching. It seems athena and cometic make kits for everything else but the 66mm. I looked at a couple honda oem parts sites as well and they don't list the oversize figure just the part number.

I use a stock honda head gasket with a 66.5 mm wiesco piston, it works fine.

The only caveat that I can offer is check the deck height of the piston in the cylinder to determine if you need a head gasket with a 66mm bore, with my high compression pistons the piston extends above the cylinder.

That's exactly what the shop said that they were going to make sure they'd checked for. I figured it was best to let the pros have the head, piston and replacment cylinder to make sure everything matches so there is no a surprises come assembly time.  BTW the prior owner overbored the cylinder and it was too big for the Wiseco 66mm piston by 10 thsnds. You could of driven a truck through the ring end gap!

Thanks for the help guys.

You can check the quench band using rosin core solder inserted thru the plug hole while turning the engine pass TDC.  The solder provides a good profile of the quench band and micing the solder will tell you the thickness of the quench area. There are several other ways to check the clearances before final assembly but the final check should be done to verify everything is correct.

If you have the old gaskets you can assemble the top end and do the check, if the quench is not correct nothing is loss except some time and you saved the new gaskets for final assembly.

You can also measure the deck height of the piston in the cylinder using no base gasket, here are my last numbers on a 97 engine (three layer metal head gasket):

deck height no base gasket   minus 0.012

Compressed base gasket est          0.018

Compressed head gasket est          0.045

calculated quench band    0.051

Measured Squish band with solder after assembly @ 0.051” (I got lucky).

Great info. Thanks. chuck, you really should write a book on rebuilding honda singles. It seems that probably know more about their idiosyncrasies and work arounds than the guys that designed them.
