Just bought this 350 and need to catch it up to ride-able.

Some issues:
1. Anyone know what the fork oil capacity/type is, and can I just drain and add, or do I need to tear it apart?

2. Swingarm-mounted chain guide is missing, and the OEM part not available--is there a source?  Haven't been able to locate any used ones, either.

3. Any suggestions on the "correct" manual(s) to purchase?

If you mean the most substantial guide, that hangs under the swingarm, they are available from XR's Only.
Shop manuals come up on Ebay, get the Honda shop manual. (over Clymer or Haynes)

I'm using Clymer manual M328-4 which covers your bike (XR/XL350R 1983-1985) and it says the standard capacity is 563cc (19 fl oz) per fork of either Dexron ATF (trans fluid) or 10W Fork Oil. No air pressure (0 psi).

Here's the drain and fill instructions...Posted Image

Wow--thanks!

XRay250, that'll get me riding sooner, and that's the point.  Thanks for scanning the page.

Mindblower--I found the chain guides on XRs only, but they fit '83 and '84 models and not the '85s.  Seems odd to me I can't find a replacement for the '85 model; but maybe I missed the obvious, somewhere...

That's where I got mine. Call them, maybe they've got one lying around. If not, I'm thinking hard about putting an XRL swingarm on my 85 for the 18" wheel, disk brake and updated look. If so I'll have mine to get rid of. The 350 uses the 3 bolt mount, the L a 2 bolt.  New parts are getting harder to find, and there's more of everything for the 83-84 bikes for some reason. Lots of it will work though. I have the XR's Only exhaust (only 83-84 available of course) and it works just fine with the upper mount being 3 or 4" off.   Same as using CRF exhausts on these bikes. I'm using a Two Brothers carbon fiber exhaust for a CRF450. You can see the simple braket (steel strip,2 bolts/nuts) to attach the upper mount. Posted Image

Here's the 1 I have.

Ah, good.  I don't mind adaptations, but it REALLY helps when someone's already done them and made it work.  I will call XRs Only about the chain guide.  And yes, if you switch out swing-arms, let me know--I'd happily pay you for parts and shipping.

Seriously nice, well-kept XR you have.

Update:  Mindblower's suggestion to call XRs Only, worked.  You can purchase a swing-arm mounted chain guide for 1985 XR350Rs.  The part number is XRCG-11-r or b or s.  The r, b, and s choices are for red, black, or silver anodized.  Woohoo!

With everyone wanting to put USD forks on their old XR's, there are lots of oem forks out there cheap.
Sliding some xr400 tubes in there (or using the triples too if the diamater is larger) will really transform the bike. Later XR600 forks too.
