A friend called me and said he used a 3 prong puller to pull the flywheel on his 05 450. I did not see it but he said the center of the crank pushed in about 3mm. I told him he made junk out of it. Was I correct in telling him that?  I'm assuming the insert that got pushed in is part of the seal for oil flow and now the big end won't get proper oil pressure.  Need some input. Thanks.

Yes unfortunatrely thats what happens when you don't put the protecter cap on when pulling the flywheel. If there is a fix I have not heard of it. Be a nice friend and get him some tissue and a service manual.

I once did more or less similar with a OEM Honda flywheel puller because a stupid dealer forgot to sell me the end cap wich you're supposed to put on cranck first.

That insert or whatever it is was also pushed in but i didn't replace anything. Orifice was still open and not damaged.

Traded bike in not too long afterwards but didn't have problems with it in that time and never heard anything back about it.

Post a pic so i can see if it looks similar..

The problem is with the end of the crank fitting properly into the seal in the case. Part 15 seals the case to the crank to feed it with oil. If that seal isn't sealing, you run the crank dry or under oiled. The seal description: OIL SEAL (10X21X5) 91204-KRN-671

Thats 10mm on the inside, 21 on the outside and 5mm deep. If the end of the crank is still only 10mm in diameter you could be ok, but you can see its mushroomed in the pic. If all you did was push that bushing down a little, it'd probably be ok. Pop the seal out of the case and see how it fits on the crank end. If you've gotta stretch it over, its toast.

Dude that sucks!I know the feeling,I did the same thing to my 07 crf450.I pushed it in about 4mm and mushroomed crank because I forgot about the cap.I didn't mess around,I replaced the crank and main bearings with oem stuff.

because the end of the crank is recessed below the flywheel. With the puller on, you simply cant see it.

I just did mine a few weeks ago. Buy one of the following. Made exactly for the crf flywheel. The little cap in the picture screws over the end of the crank to protect it.
