honda rancher shifting problem

Hey guys--need help!
honda rancher--does not shift in esp or auto--stays in low. was ok then during a ride, it stopped shifting.
looked around for a loose wire etc. nothing. seems electrical---when in reverse--it cuts on & off.
shift to forward--runs smooth--but doesn't shift.
