Not a big Reed Fan, but have learned to respect him a lot over this last two years. Like RC before him, he had to deal with the Epstein-Bar virus and he was able to recover to the point he's back to his former self. RC retired after struggling with the same in cases debilitating sickness. Have to say THAT was an ugly crash! And he had that moon shot this summer! But he went right back to work...that takes guts. I'm surprised he doesn't have back possibly neck issues to go along with the leg...my bride called it if the rumors are true to the extent, she watched it and said immediately he likely broke the leg along with an ACl issue. Of course she's seen the results of that stuff from the medical imaging side for 15 years.

I just hope he gets through this and can get back to what he obviously loves to do and is so talented at. Its fun watching guys at his level push the envelope, I don't like crashes for lots of reasons, and hope he can recover with minimal impact on him and his family. That's about all there is to say.

If this is true I'm totally bummed for CR because he was having such a great season. What's really bad is that not only will he be going through recovery from his injuries but also he'll now have to scramble to find a rider to fill in which may be much harder to do since all the top guys seem to be on teams for the season. Hopefully he had a back up plan in place and we may see someone not so well known get a chance to ride in the big show.

I just can't find any info that confirms those injuries. The wreck wasn't THAT bad...I mean he could have ligament damage, and that may or may not need immediate surgery. In any event they have to wait for the swelling to subside for any ligament repair. I just don't see him having a broken tibia and fibula and hopping on a plane to Calif without knowing for sure. It would mean the difference between a stable fracture (air-boot cast) and an unstable or separated fracture, which would require a proper cast at the least or at worst an internal fixation.

As for the broken ribs..? Yeah..can happen but that won't derail him from riding...just keep him from sleeping very well.

Nothing to confirm those rumors it seems. If it's true, someone should let Chad know. He can be reached here: http://twitter.com/#!/CRtwotwo

... or wait for him to tell us what's really happening.

I'm on board with the "where did you hear that"? Chad said he was hurting worse than Millville, but nothing specific. No updates on any websites I've looked at.

You've obviously never broke ribs, I can tell you right now that you are not riding with broken ribs, hell you can barely breathe let alone ride a motorcycle.

Poor guy, I'd imagine it is not good by his reaction.  He seemed to know something was definitely hurt.

That was a damned good race.  Reed was so impressive the last two weeks, I was practically yelling at my tv when they were dicing, the racing was so good.  When  he crashed, and they went back to the battle between Dungey and Alessi for third, it was so anticlimactic.  I'm a Dungey fan (and he finished well), but it was shaping up to be a great season.

Now, not so much.

LOL, I felt the same.  When I seen Reed go down it was like all the other battles were just mild time fillers.  2 laps after Reed went down I was already catching up on my words with friends.

Reed has ridden with worse and others have had broken ribs and showed up the next week on the starting line. I think he will ride if all he has is busted ribs. If it's his knee that's another story

Ya I call BULL CHIT on that, anyone that says they've broke ribs and rode is a liar plain and simple. Maybe bruised ribs or maybe cracked or maybe the muscle under the ribs torns, but clean break sorry but that's just BS.
I know some of these guys will suck it up and ride through a lot of pain and some of them are just tough guys but I don't believe anyone could ride with broken ribs. I would have to see the xray before I bought into that story........

I tend to agree on the broken ribs.  Have had two riding buddies that broke ribs (not bruised, not fractured but broken) from crashes and it kept them off the bike for at least 2 months.  I endoed and bruised some ribs a couple of years ago and I didnt ride for about a month, just afraid of landing on my ribs and the pain it would cause.  I know these pro's are tough as nails and super movtivated but dont know how anyone rides with ribs that are really broken (not bruised or fractured).

I'm not a CR fan either but I am a race fan and with him out it definitely will impact the excitement factor in watching SX.

No mention of any of this on Chad or his wifes twitter page, or any of the other riders accounts for that matter. Until I hear it from them this is just a rumor in my eyes. As far as riding with broken ribs, HA! The single worst pain I have ever had in my life was sneezing after I broke mine, I can't imagine that charging through a whoop section would even be possible!

Meh, I admit he was looking fast and smooth but I also think he was trying to push himself to the next level (RV) and he pushed past his limit and pulled a stewart. I don't think he would have won and well he didn't because he crashed.  It is what it is.

+1
I think it would have been some good racing between Reed and RV, I don't think either of them would have pulled too far ahead.

Actually that just proves how wrong you can be chump. I have broken the first 4 top down. You know where they are mostly cartilage? Anyhow if you had ever broken any ribs you would know that they can be endured all day long..It is sleeping and laying down and trying to sit-up that is painful. I have raced with BROKEN ribs ..in fact I have raced with all sorts of newly broken bones. Internal fixation is a wonderful process. For a pro rider with all sorts of painkillers that he allowed to take before an event (Josh Hill first event of the season), even one weekend off for broken ribs would be a stretch. You can name dozens of riders who have claimed to have broken ribs and still raced.

+1. I had a crash last spring and broke two ribs. I slept sitting up in a recliner for 1 1/2 months and tried to ride a month out and it wasn't happening so if anyone who's broken two ribs as bad as I did could still ride then he is one pain tolerant sob that I have to give big props to. Bruised ribs maybe, light fracture possible, good ole' break......ain't gonna get back on the bike until they heal!!

If it wasn't for Stewie and mini-stewie I'd have no-material. I am eternally grateful they didn't wind-up stains in the backseat of Papa's cutlass.

You see you are basing it on the fact that you didn't ride.I base it on the fact that I did ride. I reckon if I can ride with busted ribs a guy with a paycheck at stake can, no-problem. I realize every claim I make is pretty much unsupportable unless I grab my x-rays and upload them along with a race result that would be the following weekend. No big argument anyways...My point is simply: If all CR22 has is busted ribs...he will find a way to suck-it-up.

Maybe but all I know is I'm known to stitch myself up a lot (carry a suture kit in my camelbak) , have reset a badly dislocated shoulder with the help of  buddy standing over me at the jump park, reset a dislocated thumb with wet paper towels & channel locks but I literally cringed everytime I knew I was gonna have to take a shit when my ribs were broken. I think you would have to be totally f'd up on pain killers to make riding with badly broken ribs even possible.
