I just got home from riding the new toy and was very impressed with how well this bike handles. I think this is the best over all bike I've had. It doesn't quite have the power my 01 cr250r had but I feel the power it does have is more usable. the only issue you I have with it is it wont stay running without any throttle? could the jetting be off?

Did you forget to remove the pipe plug? It shoud have 7-8 more hp than an 01 CR.

Mine was jetted rich for my altitude. Dropped down to a 40 from 42 on the pilot. You should have received some extra jets and some PV springs in addition to a tool kit with your purchase. If not I would ask the dealer what happened to it?
Mine didn't idle either because for whatever reason the factory had the idle backed almost all the way out. It took about 5 turns before she would even idle for 5 or 10 seconds! The next adjustment will be the air screw and things should dialed in.

I was just kidding, I meant a wash plug that you put in your silencer for washing the bike.
These bikes are very tuneable, what power valve spring do you have in, how much preload on the spring, and which ignition curve. I rode a buddies 11, which is pretty much the same engine wise, his was set up fairly mellow, but it was still very strong for a 250.

Haha that's what I thought but this is my first ktm so i was unsure. I have the yellow spring in stock preload on it. And it's on the the performance curve.

go with the red spring. change your silencer. most KTM pipe are good to decent but the silencer is the one limiting the power.

Takes a few hours to break in!! Mine took the better part of 12-15hrs, it's an XC but it's a monster!

With a 2 stroke you don't want a constant idle like a 4 stroke. It should idle about long enough to put your goggles on. The 2 stroke will have better snap down low if you tune the air screw and pilot so the bike can bareley idle and will die a few seconds after blipping the throttle. My fully modified by MSR `97 KTM 250SX made 50hp. The stock 2012 250SX is suppose to make 50hp stock and with some bolt on mods can reach 53hp I'm told. Fast and fun bike. Jetting should be close tune with air screw and pilot for crisp bottom end response. Don't stress on the idle to much.

A bike that won't idle is a PITA,and one that is jetted spot on will idle and pick up clean off idle.

Agreed! My 250xc idles perfect and runs super clean off the bottom. I did have to turn up the idle when I installed my Rekluse though.

In my opinion, don't get a shorty, they give the intial hit to the power, but don't pull as long. FMF, Pro Circuit, or DEP, should all be an improvement over the stock silencer.

get a EU pipe like DOMA or HGS. i would prefer DOMA for the better characteristics.

I was assuming this guy does MX and not off road where you stop all day and restart. Different senario. I was shown by Factory KTM mechanic, before KTM's were cool, how to set the bikes up for moto. Guess I have been out of the 2 smoker loop to long. Still that 2012 KTM250SX is a nice bike.

If you take the time to set the idle and AS in conjunction with each other there is no reason that a 2t shouldn't idle and run good at small throttle openings.
