What other rebuildable rear shocks will fit the crf230f. Probably needs to be longer by about 1-2 inches also since I have the CR250 forks. Thanks

I don't think you can go with a shock that long or it will hit. The longest shock you can go with is about 15.4 inches max,  --L*64

I've never heard of a Honda CR650; is this a new dualsport from Honda. Or maybe a new 2T?

I just had Hlebo Brothers rebuild/revalve my stock CRF230F shock.  Total cost, even with return shipping was $200.  If you do a search for Hlebo in this forum, you'll find all sorts of feedback.  I just got it back, (didn't take long) and haven't had a chance to get it on ride yet.  But, the shock IS rebuildable by people that know what they are doing.  Hlebo Bros have plenty of experience with them, and seem to do a really good job.  I had my XR400 shock done at the same time.  It's aluminum, which is soft, and tends to contaminate the oil, so they hard anodized it for longer wear.  Said it would last close to 4X as long as one that wasn't anodized.  It was rebuilt/revalved as well.  Very good prices and service!

Go to 'search' then 'advanced search' and search for hlebo in this forum.  Tons of feedback.  Can't beat it for the price!

I can't wait to hear what you think about John's work on the stock CRF230F shock.  My buddy's is awesome and every time I ride it I still can't believe how good it is.

Please be sure to let us know what you think.

Thanks!

I just went for a first ride through the woods with my Hlebo rear shock and XR250 forks. It's a whole new bike. Unbelievable. I took my girlfriend's CRF150 out right after and the difference was night and day. Suspension upgrades should be the first thing done to this bike before any other mod.

Oh Crap.  Typo!!!  When I said "CR650", yes, I meant to type XR650.  Oops.  Sorry.

And to answer SacTown Old Dude's question, the answer is BOTH.  If anyone wants to do my irrigation system for my yard or clean up a XR650 shock to install on their CRF150/230, then I'm open to both.  I'd prefer someone to do the sprinkler system though. :bonk:

It's the same length as my stocker.  I don't recall the length of the CR85 shock, but I believe that's more than 15.4 inches.  To run the CR85 shock, you do have to do a few mods to make it fit.  People just don't mention that part.  Minor mods, but it won't just bolt on.  That's the only reason I picked up the XRshock.  It's the right length.

IM SHOCKED! its the same length AND it bolts right up. I Bought Tones XR650 shock back when this topic was hot and was skeptical when I received it. It just looked way big compared to the stock shock I had mounted on my 150.  So, like tone,  I put it aside.  Well today while working on my latest project I thought 'what the heck, it's all torn down, I'll check it out.... SWEEEEEET! Just have to find a local source to make me an extended remote reservoir hose and I'll be good to go. Thanks Tone.  BTW Tone, How's that yard coming along?
I'll post some pix when I get some time.

Okay heres what I have come up with....looks like the mid 80s Honda CR125-500 had remote reservoir shocks.  The XR350s and 600s did as well. The XR350 reservoir hose appears to be longer in length than the rest. My shock appears to be an 86-87 XR600 unit with what is described as 3 way hydraulic preload adjustment, 14 way compression adjustment, and 4 way rebound adjustment. I can only attest to fit of the shock that I have.

Honda has used a variety of KYB and Showa shocks on various models since the mid 80s that could be candidates but from my XR200R mods I've found that c-c length seems to be a problem, so a question: What is the c-c length of a stock CRF230F shocks?  The length of the 150F shock would also help.

I'm sorry,  c-c length?
