I bought my son a used crf50 for $100 (not sure what year, frame has been repainted) anyway, it's not to bad to start but the carb does not have a choke and it would start a lot easier if it had one. Don't know if it's the stock carb or not, both pilot and main jet are removable as I had to clean the carb to get it running, that's why it was so cheap and no title, what other mods can I do to it to make it perform better? Already has a aftermarket cdi, stock pipe, kid said it had an 88cc kit but I don't think it does.

also should I just modify the stock pipe or buy an aftermarket one and if so who makes a decent cheaper pipe? And if I add a pipe do I need to go to a bigger barb, my son is just learning to ride, he's 7

Post some pictures of the engine and carb area, so we can see what you have to work with. A stock OEM Honda XR/CRF50 carb has a non-removable pilot jet, just as an FYI.

somewhere along the base of the cylinder you will find "49 cm^3" if it is a stock motor.
