Pretty much correct there........they are slow, heavy and underpowered by todays standards, about the only thing they have going for them is they are durable,,you don`t have to work on them after every ride.....

Let`s face it,,Honda COULD get off their arse and build a bike alot bettter than these old XR`s.......they just choose not to.......the CRF is a great bike, fast, light but maintenance needy for our use.....

I agree. The new bikes area a technical wiz.  I think its interesting to note that in the end, The technology didn't make any difference in the race. Evidently neither did age.  Summers is in his forties, riding an old bike against Pros half his age that are riding the newest techno wiz bikes. Food for my thought..

"they are durable"

That's exactly why, when I had an opportunity to buy one, I did.

Skill will always win over flash.,ie., Some people are just naturals. Same as it ever was.

eg,,Back in the day we'd turn up to Enduros on our flash Hondas and get our butts
kicked by some guy riding a TL250 Honda Trials bike. He had the skill for the conditions.
The seeming lack of power of the TL was of no consequence, joker was just a good rider
and would have gone well on any bike. MX was much the same,,Everyone else riding screaming
state of the art 2 strokes beaten by a few guys riding old XL250s,,just pure skill and talent.

Lucky dog! I wander if that is his own bike? Look at the times, real close eh? Were the other bikes new stuff? He should have a fan club site!

Good to hear Scott is still out there tearing things up, as of 2010, at least.

The XR600R was a great bike. Before Honda came out with the XR650 (AKA: Big Red Pig), they asked Scott what he wanted them to build and he said the XR600R just 20lbs lighter. I agree. Honda really missed the mark with the XR650. Yes it made more power but it weighted 10lbs more. It also was physically larger, making it unsuitable for woods racing. It was a decent desert bike. Too bad that Honda didn't listen to Scott. The old aircooled 600 engine is hard to beat. Suspension was great. Handled well. Just a bit heavy. It is hard to beat any well setup Honda XR. I raced my old 1987 XR200R this weekend at an SERA H/S. I lead for 3 out of 6 leaps in the A45+ class. I ended up 2nd. Not bad for a 25 year old slow turtle chaser, eh ? I also raced the XR600 for 3 years and won my share of series and races. I only weighed 167lbs at the time. Just make sure you don't get stuck , LOL.

Yes, that is his personal XR. The other bikes are new bikes with very fast riders, a couple of those guys are GNCC XC2 racers.
