Can I remove the springs from xr75 shocks?
How do I go about disassembling it? Tricks, procedures?

I want to sand blast and paint up the black springs and polish up the rest.

Thanks,
Jeff

Yes, the springs are removable, but it requires a spring compressor to access the lock nut (part #7) that's under the top shock mount.

Put 2 heavy duty flat blade screwdrivers between the top of the spring and the top washer and put your weight on it till there is clearance , then have your buddy pull the washer out with a pair of pliers. Dont try to pull the washer out with your fingers in case you cant hold the spring down.

be very cautious when trying the screwdriver way. it will take fingers off if it slips. best bet is to use a compressor or do what i did a pay the shop to do it. i got mine apart with big wrenches. it cost me 25 to have them reassembled.
