If your bike idles like shit off choke but much better with the choke on, I'd either clean-to-perfection or replace the pilot jet and make 101% sure the passageways are clear.
Was this bike sitting around a lot before you bought it?

Ya it sat in Sacramento for 3 years. lol Carb was all gummed up. I cleaned the crap out of it and still nothing. Took it to the stealership had it rejetted for phoenix and just today played with it enough I finally got it running like a champ. Took some tinkering with the fuel mixture screw and lots of test riding but now its as it should be. :bonk:

I have a 2001 plated 426 with both tard and dirt set ups. It has the 450 cams and starting is a breeze. She is big fun. It's also geared high for highway use. I just added a rear rack to it as I'm working on setting it up for some dual sport work. The roads here in Houston are too long, flat and straight to make for too much fun in tard form. It gives me the biggest smiles when I'm giving it hell off road.

Do you guys get harassed by cops at all? I have a feeling even though I did everything correct I'll still get pulled over. Even though I never did on my xt225

But those are Canadian hours so after the conversion I assume it is not too bad? It took me a bit less than 3 hours but worked slow to get all the wiring done right and soldered the headlight conections. I used the stock headlight but connected it high and low beam. Works great with Tusk switch.

A plated WR 450 will be my next bike but those things are tough to plate in PA. I'll have to look for an out of state plated bike to import to PA(at least I think that will work). I keep thinking about how nice and light the WR will feel compared to my DR650.

How hard is it there ? Neither my insurance company or registration asked to even see the bike here

I'm going to run dirt tires on the street till they wear down then maybe get some Dunlop 606. I live in Alberta hence why it was so easy to make it street legal without them even seeing the bike. I haven't even put the kit on yet lol

It won't take very long before you wear out the dirt tires. I'll give you about 300km of asphalt and it will ruin both front and rear tires. You might as well switch right now.

PA has a bunch of stupid rules and regulations. If I can find a dirt bike from another state that has a "road use" title things will be easier than trying to make an off road titled bike PA legal. An off road titled bike can be made legal here but it is a PIA.

Hmm? I did 500km on street plus what the previous owner had and there's tons of life

Maybe you and I are running different tires. I run the MX51's and the knobs are noticeably flatter and worn down after stints on the road.

Getting 300km from a tire is pathetic, I hear the Dunlop 606 should get around 3000 so I might get those

A motocross knobby tire won't last long at all with a lot of pavement riding.
Sure, it could last for 1,000 or 1,500 or maybe 2,000 miles before it's bald and smooth, but assuming you want more out of your tires once off-road than having mere rounded bumps for knobs, once you get more than a couple hundred miles of pavement on a knobby, off-road performance and feel goes out the window.

It depends on how critical you are.

What are some good long life tires for on and offroad ?
